My first impression with electrolysis

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my first impression with electrolysis and my concerns.
A couple of months ago, i have started growing excessive hair in some areas. (Back, stomach, chest and breasts etc) The one place that bothered me the most was my breasts because there would be ingrown hair so i decided to go for electrolysis. Everything seemed fine redness went away in a day, scabs fell off in a week which then turned into little red and brown dots. Then i became really worried because i did not know about hyperpigmentation and that it could even take a year until it would be gone. And not only those red/brown dots but I also have red dots bigger than the size of a needle and some little red area.
I asked my electrologist but she would always be like oh don’t worry they would go in a week or two but I also read on this forum that it can take up to a year, so i kind of lost faith in my electrologist. (Not in electrolysis as a whole) but at this point, i really don’t know what to do. I don’t want to go to her again and in my area there is really almost no electrologist. (NL) Btw it has been a little more than 2 weeks since the treatment now and i have a couple of questions.
-when is it possible to put make up on the area? Honestly, i have hope that i would heal but i really would not like my boyfriend seeing all these spots that look like the roots of hair. (I will see him in 2 months)
-secondly, i want to change into laser hair removal because i have found a reliable person. (I have a consultation next week.) but after how long it is possible to have laser on the area? It has been only two weeks and i think it is too soon. And if hyperpigmentation shows the healing process does that mean i must wait almost a year to have treatment???
-thirdly, is there any way possible to speed the healing process?
Thank you so much already for all the answers

  1. From my understanding of it, the skin closes those tiny wounds pretty fast, so technically makeup is not a ‘‘danger’’ of infecting it (can it even do that?).

  2. Also, the healing process (remodelling phase especially) can take up to 2 years, but again, the important part is done in the first days. I don’t think waiting that long is necessary, I would even argue that more temporary damage to the skin might be beneficial. And technically, the role of PIH is to protect the skin from the sun’s radiation.

  3. The million dollar question… I’d say be healthy, sleep more!

Good luck with laser, NEVER COME BACK HERE YOU TRAITOR!

A word of caution. Unless you have dense coarse hair on the areas you mentioned you might want to reconsider using laser. I think laser is great for areas that do have dense coarse hair such as underarms or pubic region. I’m assuming you are female, so I doubt the areas you listed have dense coarse hair. My 2 cents.

We need to work on that delivery some.
I’m not sure that’s a message we want to convey here.
I think some suggested reading is in order here. Lets start with Michael Bono’s the blend method and round that off with ELectrolysis Thermolysis and the blend by hinkel and lind. The latter being the cheapest, as often copies can be had for 10 or 20 bucks (it’s only used, hasnt been printed since 1969!)

If you can do this much damage with a LITTLE knowledge imagine what you can accomplish with more knowledge.

Incidentally copies of both are available for perusing at Electrolysis By Seana’s location in O’town.

Do I have to defend my humour too now?

What ‘‘damage’’ am I causing? Was the info I gave incorrect? I very rarely speak out of hearsay (actually a pet peeve) and often do at the very least a little research before.

P.S. I have that Hinkel book and I don’t necessarily wanna learn the art of electro

No one is asking you to defend anything, that said, it’s pretty difficult for people to determine what is meantas humour and what isnt in a text only environment.

Regardless of whether you take up or learn the “Art of Electrology” if you’re going to jump in on every thread with your opinion, it’s a good thing that that opinion be more knowledgeable than what you have now. That’s what I meant by “Damage”. The only way you are going to know if the information you give is accurate, is to be sure of the facts . The best way to achieve that, is through education.

Doesnt seem to me you’re particularly receptive to what you are being told, so, I wont say it.I dont hold any special position here at hairtell other than “helpful electrologist” so it’s not really up to me anyway.

Ok well, I’m gonna put my modesty aside for a sec…

I rarely base my ‘‘opinion’’ on nothing but researched info, personally tested facts and most of the time, even more questioning. I’ve always encouraged people to correct me, if you haven’t noticed in several of my messages I often say it.

I do think I have a relatively unique perspective to offer. Not many clients know what permanent AND temporary reactions can look like (I’ve experienced both!). Also, not many are willing, or have done as many little tests as I have, that has to count for at least something. I might not possess the technical knowledge that some people here have, however I believe that I’ve got some of the practical aspects established (and there’s always room to grow).

Not even talking about the zapping here, when did I ever give ‘‘advice’’ on zapping anyway? I wouldn’t even dare to.

Everything I’ve said thus far on this forum was to get myself (and maybe others) rid of misconceptions and to be one step nearer from the truth.

WHERE? I literally adapt everything (tests, assumptions, knowledge) from what people are telling me.

Again, WHERE WAS I WRONG? I’d love to know!

I don’t see you discouraging people spilling their hearsay here so I’m wondering… why me?

We definitely correct heresay here…pretty much constantly around hsre. Its not just you.Wrong information or impressions can affect many consumers and tends to be spread far and wide from hairtell.

Amusing thread. I do GET the humor and believe it’s based on enthusiasm.

Most importantly, Hinkel’s text is most certainly still being printed, i.e., you can purchase a brand NEW book from all the “usual suspects.” So the “it’s only used, hasn’t been printed since 1969!”, isn’t accurate.

We are (finally) working on transferring my books (all three) to the format that will allow us to do an e-book (Amazon). Because of all the illustrations this is a bit of a daunting task (page-by-page). Between my various surgeries and injuries, and Eric’s infirmities (sniff-sniff) we’ll “get-'er-done!”

I’m finally set-up to start digitally recording HOURS of Hinkel’s lectures. Again, a bit daunting because I’ll have to clean-them-up in “Audition.” (And buy a reel-to-reel for some of them.) These will be on Electrology Now" for free. It is, actually, wonderful to hear “the man himself” talking about all sorts of subjects. (An amazing conversation with a few celebrities of the era, i.e., Christine Jorgensen. I wonder if I need “permission?” I’ll just do it and find out!

All this drama and you’re not gonna tell me what info I got wrong? Unless it was simply my delivery… which you could be the one to blame since you’re the only one pestering me over it.

I just said hearsay was a pet peeve of mine and you’re including me in that category.

Additionally, for the most part Hairtell IS HEAR-SAY.

How many dermatologists here? Zero. How many plastic surgeons? None. How many laser operators? Nuttin’ honey. How many manufacturers? Zippity-do-da!" How many electrologists? A couple here-and-there. Think, “The blind leading the blind.” There are seldom definitive answers based on authorities with decades of experience and academic scholarship.

The casual reader has no idea if the person posting is a consumer or a therapist (usually an enthusiastic consumer/ or DIYer with half-baked ideas.) So, most of what transpires here is “cleaning-up the misunderstandings and hear-say.” Hairtell is hear-say … Still, the only place I still post stuff.

The “professional electrology forums” (Facebook) are cloistered and there are virtually no clients allowed. For me, this was a stifling environment so I quit all of them (okay boring). I don’t do “private!”

I do envision a place where clients (who identify themselves as CLIENTS; not experts) can ask questions and get solid answers to their ubiquitous questions. Am I dreaming? Maybe not!

Well I’d like to know, from your outside perspective Michael (and everyone else), am I doing something wrong? I’ll stop ‘‘whatever I’m doing’’ if a few people say so… No issue with that.

Oh, well … I put intellect FIRST! Humor (sarcasm) is, for me, a function of intellect. The subject of hair removal is pedestrian at best. So, “no problema” from this aging reprobate. Laughter and “lightening the subject” is something I enjoy.

Besides, even the self-anointed experts get shit wrong all the time! Case in point: most schools are still teaching the “papilla” and “early anagen” fairytale, even though it’s detailed in, gulp, Hinkel’s “defunct out-of-print book” (still in very active publication … sells 10-to-one to my trashy missive).

“Don’t nobody worry about nothing!” (To quote my Italian New Yorker father.)

Hearsay could be eliminated by doing a few simple tests with most people agreeing on the results and/or proof. Doesn’t even have to be scientific too, but at least have the same determinants (might be subjective)…

But at the same time group agreement can be dangerous for the truth (example ahem creams), so I’m not even sure on how to proceed anymore, since I had a few other tests in mind.

And I know that most have already been done already, but most people (?) won’t read books about it so a little practical test on a forum could be more realistic for some kind of truth.

too many fires being put out already,I’m out. You’ll figure it out.

Gosh I wish we had the Hairtell of 4+ years ago when it was fun to read topics, really learn something, see actual educational exchanges which benefited both the consumers and the pros.

I was talking about me personally fenix, I’ve had a couple issues I’ve been dealing with for a month or two and several of them have reared their ugly heads this week. Sorry butI’m too busy doing that. to really do much of anything on hairtell.

How boring life would be if sarcasm did not exist!!

Unfortunately, this style is not welcome in most forums since it is often linked to conflict and misunderstandings.
No problem with me either, zapmyface, as long as it’s SMART humor.
