My first appointment...a bit befuddled

I had my first treatment yesturday, a 1/2 hour on my cheeks…however it seemed that she did not remove many hairs and was picking at my acne. Red flag? She’s been doing electrolysis since 1975 so I’m not sure what I should do…

One should always sample many electrolysis practitioners to find out who is the best in your area. That is how you will find out if this person’s speed on your hair removal is fast or slow when compared to others.

As for the acne, I would not call that a red flag. An electrologist is much better to drain a pimple than you are. Furthermore, sometimes a practitioner needs to check to see if you have a hair inside there, or just a hard seed causing irritation.

Are you sure it was acne and not inflamed follicle due to an ingrown she was picking out to kill?

Also, what type of electrolysis is used? What you should be looking at is how many hairs are treated per minute. How long it takes overall depends on how much hair you have on that area too, which we don’t know. 30 mins may be very little if you have quite a bit even if she’s removing 10 hairs per minute. That’s only 300 hairs, i.e. 150 hairs on each side. And this would be with the fastest method like microflash. If she’s using blend, she’s likely removing 2-3 per minute, which would mean 50 hairs on each side.

She was using thermolysis (sp?) it wasn’t a new high tech machine, but it worked. I have an hour session next Thursday, but shouldn’t I be going at least twice a week, because honestly my cheeks are a side project. My main target is the front torso. We couldn’t do anything on Monday because I was stupid and shaved there a couple days before, and the hair was not long enough.

Hair should be long enough two days after shaving if one has surgical magnification. If she does not have surgical magnification, then shave a week before.

You spelled thermolysis correctly. You can go twice a week as long as you don’t work on the same area on the face. Body work is different, so go for more if you can manage that.

Alright thank you. I think just as a safety precaution I’m gonna check out a couple more places.

That’s what I would do, Jag. Good move on your part.

You should go in as often as you feel is necessary to get all the hair you want gone as fast as possible without retreating any areas that haven’t had a chance to heal too early.

Yes, good call on checking out a few more people. It always helps to compare.
