My experience with laser

I´ve been using this forum quite a lot, and although it´s been helpful in some ways (for example it has convinced me that alexandrite lasers are the best) it´s also truly confusing, as so many people seem dissatisfied with the treatment they have received.

This is my story so far: I´ve got rather pale skin and dark hairs. 4 years ago I had 2 sessions of alexandrite laser done on my chest and abdomen. As far as I could see, it made my hair significantly thinner and somewhat sparser, which was more or less what I was looking for (and it was evenly thinned out - I´ve seen people complaining about patches, but that wasn´t a problem for me). After a while though, the hair has grown back, and, with age I guess, has gotten even coarser and denser. (I´m 28)

Almost 3 weeks ago I went for another session at a place in Drammen, Norway. The deal was the following: for 3 700 $ the practitioner will, for the next 2 years, give me as many treatments as I want on the “T-shirt” area of my upper body. (I´ve got a few hairs on the back, a bit more on my shoulders, and a bit too much on my upper arms.) Now, after the first treatment (which was surprisingly comfortable) the hairs has started shedding: most of it has fallen of, but some remain. Thus I might go inn for some touch up.
I´ll try to post some photos later, and keep you updated on the progress. I don´t really need too many comments to this: I´d like to keep this a simple and informative “laser hair removal diary”. Hopefully it will be helpful for other users.

This is an online forum. People don’t seek out forums when everything is great. They seek it out when they have problems with treatments and can’t get a satisfactory answer or resolution from their clinic. Keep that in mind when reading posts. Also, if you follow threads all the way through, i.e. read those that have been through issues and resolved them over the course of several years (how long it takes to COMPLETE the process), I don’t think you’ll be of the same opinion. We mostly help people get good results here after they’ve been disappointed somewhere due to lack of research and experience of their clinic.

Thanks for taking the time to post your diary. I hope you keep it up!

I do have a couple concerns.

  1. What do you mean by “a few hairs”? You shouldn’t be treated any areas with what you would call a few hairs. Laser is ONLY for hairs with DENSE COARSE growth. If you treat somewhat sparse hairs, even if they’re coarse, there is a possibility of stimulating growth in the surrounding areas that laser will touch near those few coarse hairs. Upper arms, upper back and shoulders are most susceptible areas to this on men.

  2. What machine and settings are being used? What is your skin type?
