My experience with electrolysis. Not so good

Hi people,
I have just come back from a gruelling long drive to get my hair removed, I do not want to mention the person who did the work on me as I feel they did best they can but just probably need more experience and time with the machine.

I had the Apilus Plantinum Pure working on me, the person who was using it had only used it once as prior to that they were using the Apilus Senior 2. I never have had electrolysis done before and so I booked in a 6 hour session as where I was heading was quite a distance from me.
I didn’t have the best experience with electrolysis I must say, it maybe because of the lack of experience on the machine by the electrologist or just that my hair are stubborn and cannot be dealt with.

I had my abdomen worked on the Apilus Plantinum doesn’t have a function for the abdomen but does for other areas. Anyone know why? So the back function was used instead on syncro mode, the electrologist set it to level 1 to start with at 140 e.l’s that didn’t do nothing then moved up to level 2 at 242 e.l again that did not do anything and the hair was plucking rather than slide out with ease. We then took it upto level 7 at 732 e.l’s I think. It worked at that setting but still some hair felt as if they were plucking out. It was bearable at some degree but not for long and I was in pain. I thought I’d hold on and keep going but I couldn’t do it after 2 hours I had to stop. My pain threshold is high I can tolerate a fair amount of pain but that was too painful. It was really burning when the probe was inserted and the pulse was fired. The electrologist had to reinsert into one hair follicle around two three times and I think that might have made it more painful for me.
The also was sending the pulse twice so I’d get the first burning sensation and then immediately another one. Is that how it should be done? Or is one press of the pedal enough?
There was one point the machine was playing up and it was on 1800 e.l and we tried that and my gosh was that really painful. Too powerful that setting.

After the abdomen was too painful for me I asked the electrologist to perform on my shoulders instead, but they were struggling to get any hair out without it plucking again. We tried high settings upto level 6, they also tried using their older Senior two machine but even no luck with that. We used both Multiplex and Pico flash but to no avail.

Was it that I wasn’t the right candidate for electrolysis?

And were the settings the electrologists used on me correct?

Hi Max, I know this doesn’t help your situation at the moment but Apilus can be challenging to use in the beginning and I’m sure your electrologist will be better once she has had some experience with it.
Some of the settings do sound quite high, and most practitioners aim for a single insertion to remove hair. However pulses can be set with lower el, it’s about getting the balance of smooth removal with client comfort. On a final note if you have unwanted hair electrolysis will get rid of it.

I am an electrologist since 1980. In 33 years I have never found anyone who was not a candidate for electrolysis. Some cases were more difficult than others, but always, always works. The only requirements are: To be alive, to be willing, and have hairs on the surface of the skin.

To be alive being key ! HA HA HA
PS> by the way , im glad you are alive! we were worried about your recent running away from home

It is sort of like describing to us a bad meal, and asking us what went wrong. We can only try to guess at the amount of turmeric, cayenne, and coriander that were in the soup. We can only wonder out loud if the meat was over or undercooked. We wonder if the produce was organic, wild, or genetically modified.

While I could say that I would look to the vision equipment, insertion technique and depth as the place to start to try to figure out what was wrong, without being there at that time, it is near impossible to say what happened.

Personally, I don’t recall needing more than a 3 or 4 on belly hairs in synchro. I would offer, however, that this is one of those places that treating to make the hair fall out in your hand instead of a slight bit of tension to guide the solidified protein into the undamaged hair shaft above the anchor point, makes a big difference in the treatment energy selected.

I’m not sure who in their right mind would schedule a 6 hour long treatment… Yeooowwch!

Thanks dear, I kept my self-imposed task, answering at least half of the emails. Now it’s time to enjoy.

I heard they have been doing formula 1 testing in Barcelona this week

Oh, I’m ready, give me a good asphalt and a good engine, I have the tires, my 045 and my 005, 006 short, and then you need long distance binoculars to see my “tank” on the racetrack.

Hi people,

Thank you for you responses.

Mairi, it may well be that but I was gutted I had to be like a test subject. I didn’t mind the pain so long as I knew it’s doing the job. But that wasn’t the case the hairs were still plucking at time.

Josefa, I guess in your hands no amount of hair is impossible to remove.

James, I guess you right it’s hard to tell what was wrong but in all honesty I think the electrologist needs to find someone who has used that a few years and get some good pointers on what settings etc to use.

ilikeDIY, I was hoping to book for 7 hour sessions at one point but with not on one area at once, would spread it out in different areas to minimise the pain.

I have just checked the area today and have got dark spots like it’s burnt. Is this normal? And would it go away?

Max.

Dark red spots afterward are normal, and do eventually go away, but it can take a very long time. Mine are finally getting to the not-very-noticeable stage after about 6 months. But mine are on my face which takes longer to heal (and I’m still being treated), so yours may fade quite a bit sooner.
