My experience so far

Hi guys,

I just wanted to share my experience with everyone because reading through these forums really helped when I was doing my research. Contributors like lagirl are really an asset because otherwise it would just be a bunch of complaints :). As it’s been said several times, nobody really posts here about their good experience.

A little bit about me. I’m Male, early thirties, Type II-III. I had my scrotum done as well as peri-anal. The laser used was a Candela GentleLase set to 18J. I know i’m missing the rest of the settings, and I’ll try to get them next time.

I went to Maria DeNicola (http://www.arizonaelectrolysis.com/) by referral from this website. It’s been about a week, and I’ll try to update this post as I continue treatements.

I shaved as best I could a couple of days before hand, and any place I couldn’t reach was shaved once I got there. I highly recommend shaving anything you can yourself at a slow and comfortable pace at home. Although Maria was careful, a fast dry shave on sensitive areas will probably cause more discomfort later (razor burn) than from the actual laser.

We spent a few moments talking about what I wanted: not to look like a porn actor, just a quasi natural look of someone with not as much pubic hair (but completely hairless in all the parts that aren’t visible when standing up, i.e… scrotum, between legs, perianal), then it was time to start.

After the initial shock of having someone interact with my twig and berries I barely noticed her moving things around to get access. Pain wise, it was far from pleasant. Personally, I’m a big sissy and could still tolerate it with 10 seconds breaks here and there. Interestingly enough, the scrotum didn’t hurt nearly as much as between the legs and the inner ass cheeks. After about 30 minutes, we were done. She gave me some anti-itch cream and I was off. We setup an appointment for a free follow up in a couple of weeks to hit any areas she might have missed.

It’s been about a week now and there has been no shedding, just this infernal itching. It was really bad the first three days, even with the cream, but has slowly subsided into an annoyance. I’ve read enough on this forum to not expect anything for at least a couple of weeks so I’m being patient.

One small piece of advice… stay away from hot showers in the first few days. I love to take a hot shower and finally caved in upped the temperature above luke warm about two days after laser. Instantly broke out a little bit. I wonder how bad I would have broken out if it was on the first day after laser?

I will try keep this post updated as time passes.

Thanks for taking your time to post. We’ll stay tuned as you continue to share your hair removal experience with us, LHRman.

thanks for sharing your experience. try to keep the area as dry as possible. not hot showers, too much sweating etc. use clear aloe vera gel as well. you should start to see shedding after 1.5-2 weeks. keep us updated! thanks.

btw, the areas that hurt the most are usually the ones with the most dense coarse hair.

Quick Update.
Almost all the hair that was going to fall out is out at this point. Certain spots still have a little bit of hair on them, but overall I like the outcome.

I have made one trip back so far for touch ups. It took 10 minutes to just re-laser the spots that didn’t appear completely hairless.

I also asked about the settings used. The first treatment was 12J with 18mm spot. The second (touch up) time she had upped the settings to 14J with the same 18mm spot. She let me know that every progressive treatment she will likely raise the settings.

I have to admit that I don’t know how people here start at 18J or 20J. I was definitely uncomfortable at 12J. From what I’m guessing, as there is less and less hair, the higher settings sting less.

I wouldn’t treat at anything less than 14j 18mm. 12 might not be enough to actual kill the hair, just disrupt it.

And yes, 18 and 20 is uncomfortable, but it’s not proportionally worse. It’s a bit more painful. However, keep in mind that your objective is to get results, so you should be willing to put up with some pain. You can use a numbing cream if necessary. And yes, the most coarse dense areas hurt most.

Another update:

The hair regrowth has been so little that I’m trying to negotiate a way to pay for touch ups and do them more regularly. Complete treatments just don’t make sense when there is so little hair. Takes only about 10-15 minutes to hit every spot.

I’d rather come in more frequently (once a month or so), hit the few areas that have hair, and leave.

Needless to say, I’m happy with how things have gone.

you should instead just wait longer between treatments. 10% or so that was missed is not going to make a difference in the long run. but if you come in too often, you may not get the full sense of your reduction.

I had another appointment yesterday.

After my last post, I finally started seeing some real hair regrowth (I guess people weren’t making up this “cycle” thing). What threw me off originally was that the genital area as well as between the buttcheecks stayed relatively hairless until just about two-three weeks ago. In that time I had two touch ups done on the hair on on my inner thighs and outer crotch area (basically, the areas where it stops being pubic hair and turns into the finer leg hair). These outer areas seem to be much less affected by the laser.

The settings used were 14J , 18mm (spot size). At first we started at 16J before my crying became unbearable and Maria (the laser specialist) switched to 14J. It hurt!

She tried to talk to me during the session to take my mind off the pain, nice gesture. In my case it backfired because I couldn’t put together a complete sentence. Imagine trying to answer easy math questions while on fire.

As they say: No pain… no hairless balls.

LOL. Thanks for the entertainment.

Had another appointment last week. A lot more 16J this time, still painfull as hell, but not as bad as before. I’m guessing there are less hairs? Results are still pending.

Since the last treatment the less coarse leg hairs in the pubic region still poped back with little change. In the more immediate sack and penis range, the hairs are very sparse with very slow and limited regrowth. Between the butt cheecks is virtually nothing.

All an all, I have absolutly no complaints. Healing time is minimal, within 4 days the only thing on the skin are dots where I expect the black hair to come out.

Thanks for the update. Yes, the treatments get less painful as there is less hair and finer hair remaining.
