My electrolysis

I realised that I’ve got some scars (tiny holes) from electrolysis and I am very annoyed. In addition to this, some parts of my skin (those that used to have coarse hair) are darker and the skin is depressed. I am sure I didn’t get them from my original electrologist’s treatments, because I do not have scabs after her treatments. Is there anything I can do now?

How long has it been since your last treatment, and are you finished with the work in this area now?

Last treatment was on 17th Jan. I haven’t finished with this area. I have an appointment on Sat 31st Jan.

From the inside you need vitamins A, C, E, and you need to build up your collagen production. herbal licorice would help the pigmentation. This will heal up well when you are closer to done with working in the area. All you need is time.

I would hope that others would offer some more cosmetic solutions as well.

It will fade away… with time…minus the hair.

Thank you for your replies. How about the scars? Will they go away?

Well, to tell you the truth, I keep going back to your picture and I don’t see anything that looks like a scar. The picture looks shiney and I’m really having a hard time seeing “scars”. If you care to submit a better view of what you are talking about, that would help. I can only say that scarring is rare and the skin heals fine. It may take up to 18 months for the skin to restructure itself at the worst, so you need to be patient. You also need to have frank communication with your practitioner about your healing concerns so she can stay alert and on her game.

Hope these enlarged photos are better.

From what I see, these should resolve once you get to spend about 6 months without getting treatment.

Hope you are right James!

34th treatment. 1hr on cheeks, upper lip and sides. I decided to postpone eyebrow treatment.

Trust me.
I knew a determined, though ill-advised MTF person who took her own council and performed full facial hair removal on herself. She eventually succeeded in clearing all the visible hairs from her face, but at the site of each poorly inserted follicle was left a burn hole and an effect in the skin that looked like a dart board. Imagine a face full of rings, lines and red dots.

Well, it took years, but now this has subsided to the point where it is only noticeable to those who are very close, and get to look at her skin in a good light.

My point is that your treatment outcome is in no way as bad as this unskilled labor, so you should recover even better in the end.

She did her whole face herself? Including her upper lip herself? Wow, and I thought I was determined! :o Was a bad idea, but that is still some determination!!

Did she do that with a pro unit, or with a one-touch type device? And what kind of magnification I wonder.

She did it all with an unmodified one touch.
Well, I shoudl say several stock one touch machines, as they are not expected to be used so often, and for so long. She really could have purchased a used pro machine for all the money she “saved” by buying “cheap” one touches over and over and over.

Does anyone here remember how much larger than a pro unit the probe/needle on a one touch is? I know Vickie knows.

She was using magnification mirrors and florescent lighting.

All I can say is OUCH!

OMG! How did she do this to herself?

BTW are lactic peels safe while doing electrolysis treatments? And how about fake tans?

Like we said, she did not do a great job, she was just determined enough to finish what she started. None of her friends looked at what she accomplished and said, “I want to do that too.”

The rule is to let your skin heal. For most people, almost anything can be done one week after your last treatment. Since fake tans are lotion products that cover the skin, these should not be used for a week after treatment as well. If your healing is really good, 3 days may be enough, but the rule of thumb is one week.

35th treatment. 1hr on the cheeks, upper lip and sides.

Although I am very happy with the progress, I occasionally see some coarse hair here and there on the upper lip. Is this normal after so many treatments?

Your hair removal journey is dependent upon several factors. The number of hairs you have to remove, the cycle they grow on, the amount of time it takes for all growing hairs to show themselves onece, the ability to clear out all growing hairs before the phase ends, and the treatment schedule that is followed.

In short, yes, it is normal to still see some hair. At this point, you should be seeing less of it, but it should still be popping up, as you have never removed every hair in the area.

If your job was to shoot the stars out of the night sky, you would have the problem of how many stars can you shoot per night, and how many nights do you shoot at stars, and what stars are visible on what nights. If you miss a star, or constellation, you must wait a year before it comes around to the same spot again.

Damn!!! Is that a great explanation or what? So many things are like hair growth cycles.

First of all thank you so much for your responses. Since the last time I reported, I had one more treatment. That was a couple of days ago, so…

36th treatment. 1hr on the cheeks, sides, upper/lower lip.

Now, I’ve just received a call from my doctor. I had a blood test and an ultrasound three days ago, because I have menstruation irregularities. I have PCOS. I thought that women with PCOS have coarse hair. The only coarse hair I used to have (and are gone thanks to electrolysis) were due to plucking.

Anyway, I know that there is no cure, so I am just wondering…will I have to do electrolysis for the rest of my life? I am very happy with the results so far, but I am afraid that new hair will come back. Is there anything I can do to prevent new hair from coming back?

Of course, I am going to see my doctor tomorrow, so he will talk to me about the treatment options that I have. Nevertheless, I’d like your opinion.

Address your PCOS concerns for sure, but keep going forward with your electrolysis care as needed. IT WORKS as you can attest to at this point. We cannot predict the future about whether you will have new hair growth. I can tell you that most women, with or without PCOS, need periodic cleanups on their faces as they age. Just go with the flow if that happens in your life. At least you know that you have this syndrome and can start treatment. Work closely with your doctor and stay closer to your electrologist through all this.
