My electrolysis story :(

Hi

I am a Asian male of 36 years. I have hairs on my cheek that I have been shaving and tweezing from last 16 years, until one day I decided to undergo electrolysis to remove them ‘permanently’. I met few electrologists who promised that hair would be gone forever. I have now been undergoing electrolysis from last 10 months having spent around around 1500 dollars.

I would say, I have been disappointed by the results till now. After 10 months there is very little improvement and to make matters worse new hairs have grown in new places. And now I have to worry about them also as if my earlier hairs were not worry enough for me. I undergo electrolysis every 2 weeks but my facial hairs simply come back sooner or later.

Sometimes I think is electrolysis really a permanent hair removal treatment or is a gimmick to earn money.

No, it is not a gimmick. It works. It is permanent. Can you tell us more details about your treatments? No detail is too small. Have you done any tweezing or waxing since you started electrolysis? Anything that pulls out the hair is a big No No while you are getting electrolysis. Did you take a before picture? Can you submit any pictures? Welcome to HairTell!

Where are you located?

And those details…we might be able to make some recommendations.

You will see some before and afters that prove that it DOES work, if everything is done right by both practitioner and client.

This is very upsetting. I relate and understand. What inspired me to become an electrologist was finally finding a highly skilled electrologist who helped end the facial hair that was causing me so much distress. Even with her clunky old dual peddle Fischer machine, she was far better than others who were using more modern machines.

I, along with folks here, will make suggestions that will hopefully help you find a good electrologist but you need to tell us what city you are located in and how far you are willing to travel.

I completely understand I am in a similar situation. I have been getting electrolysis done for years now and I feel the hairs keep coming back.

I know you are not supposed to pluck or wax while getting treatment. Only shave or cut the hair (I prefer cut)

Hopefully someone can shed some light on our situation.

Good grief! Okay, Raj, if you live in the Southern California area I will finish you up for free. I’ve calculated you have done 20+ hours on your “cheeks” and that’s enough …

(This is not a big deal for me. Currently, I am doing a beautiful woman with a “near beard” who had 16 laser treatments that didn’t work. She spent a small fortune and, so, I’m completing her for free. She does not have a lot of money.)

Raj, for free, it would be worth a plane ticket to Santa Barbara. Go for it, man!

Dear Rajneesh,

I’m not an electrologist but I had some very distorted hair that were permanently removed with electrolysis. So I can assure you it does work BUT not everyone works it equally well.

Depending where you are, you might have to travel very far to get semi-decent treatment, and maybe even further to get some of the world-class treatments offered by the good electrologists here.

It’s very worth it though.

PS. It’s the same with doctors, hairdressers and pretty much every job out there. Not everyone is skilled equally.

Wow! Michael Bono. Your kindness has made my day. I was so moved when I read your comment. It’s so nice to see people who are so passionate about what they do here.
Best wishes.

Thanks for all nice comments. I don’t have a before photograph. After I started electrolysis I didn’t tweez at all. I have never done waxing in my life. I am aware that an electrologist need to see the hair to treat it. I am in Atlanta Georgia.

Hi Arlene

I want to ask few questions

  1. Which hair will take less time to treat. A brand new hair or a hair that is there for years and shaved for years. Or both will take same amount of time.

  2. How true is this. Can treating hair with electrolysis result in new hairs coming up in adjacent areas(Because blood rushes to repair treated areas and causes sleeping follicles to wake up and start producing hairs

Wow Michael Bono, that is so nice of you to be working for free!! Its nice to hear that people still do things for other people to help them =) I wish I could find a reputable and skilled person to help me. I too don’t have a lot of money and have kinda gone into debt due to removing hair!!! I just want an initial clearance of most body parts and hopefully that will help me keep going.

It costs so much and I just wish it would end, I constantly worry about people finding out my secret I spend more time covering up then enjoying life.

Its unfair, and I understand what this guy is going through…although its a double standard, hes lucky hes a man.

Some day, if I’m very very brave, I will post a photo of my hairless upper body: still clear after 25 years. Of course, it’s all old and saggy now, but the skin is clear and hairless. Had I not removed the hair, I would be covered in long white hairs by now … I would look like a “silver back” gorilla.

I have a hairy friend that swims with me. It’s horrible: he looks like a mass of seaweed swirling in the water. I try not to look … yuck! Much nicer when he wears his wet-suit.

It’s really a pity that we have to “melt” as we age. I mean everything is still there; it’s just in a different place (lots lower)!

Raj at this point you should be saying yes please booking a flight and making the most of such a kind offer

Is Thermolysis as effective and safe as electrolysis. I read in some places that its kill rate is very less as compared to electrolysis
