My Electrolysis Journey

Dear diary :stuck_out_tongue:

Like many, I have a great insecurity about my hair. So I will embark on this electrolysis journey. To all who don’t know me, I am of Asian decent, live in the UK and have fairly light skin. Therefore the black hairs on my face and wherever else seem to be more apparent.

So far I have had a consultation and will start on my face. I will hopefully share some pics soon so that I can show you what I look like before and after this journey. I am here, however, to ask some questions:

Before and After-Care

I believe when getting electrolysis done we should follow certain measures, however, could someone provide me links to what products I should purchase? I will probably misread a product and end up buying the wrong one. I’d normally purchase from ‘Superdrugs’, ‘Boots’, ‘Tescos’ or stores like these, so if someone could provide me with exact links and a description of when and how to use it, I would be greatful.

Hair Removal

My face is covered with hair but I am mostly concerned with my upper lip. However, I have great insecurity about the hairs on my nose. My nose is heavily covered with small hairs, some darker than the other, but what adds to my insecurties is that to me it seems like my nose looks ‘holy’ as in dotty, with hairs coming out. At the consultation I was told that they are hardly apparent but whenever I look into the mirror I dislike my holy nose, I can see the hairs are causing openings, should I go for electrolysis on this area?

Hair Cycles

I have been reading that the hair has to be in a certain stage for it to be killed, how will I know when my hair is at the growth stage?

Anyway, thank you all for reading.

Bye,
peace1

Hi Peace1. Welcome!

Not clear to me what part of you nose hairs. In the area of mucosa (internal) or outside (wing nose)?

Whether a zone as if it is the other. You can remove the hair with Electrolysis. The area of mucosa is not easily accessible to the electrologist, but the results are spectacular. Extreme care should postdepilación. It would be dangerous infection in the area.

As for the hair cycle.

[color:#000066]Removal of hair is possible in all phases of hair. I personally prefer to work in an advanced stage. If possible, very late anagen or telogen. If it is not possible because the client does not want to shave or cut, the risk to the skin increases and we must be cautious.

For electrolysis, the hair doesn’t HAVE to be in the anagen phase, but most of them strongly prefer it. I have been told it is more painful to remove telogen hairs. I wouldn’t stress too much about making sure it’s all in the right phase unless you’re doing laser. But if you want to be 100% sure it’s all anagen, then you can wax right now, and wait for it all to grow back. Everything that returns will be in anagen for a while and you’ll have maximum results.

Waxing can distort follicles, so it’s risky to do regularly, but doing it once to assure easier first clearance won’t cause problems.

Magical, allow me a small correction, maximum results are independent of the hair is in anagen phase. Dependent on the electrologist is very accurate insertion. And be able to produce the injury in the exact area of the follicle has the ability to produce hair.

In all other respects, I agree.

Thank you. Sorry, I meant outside the nose, as in on the nose, not inside, although I have hair there too. What is anagen and telogen?

Thank you for your reply. I don’t want to wax my face. Sounds scary, but if I shave it, will I be able to tell if it is anagen or not?

A professional will be able to tell with reasonable accuracy. Just leave it up to them. Many times they will treat anagen hairs, and pluck the telogen hairs as they go.

Or they’ll choose to treat them all (which is what my electrologist does).

Your electrologist may ask you to shave (just give it a few days regrowth before your treatment) or ask you not to. It’s their personal preference, and you should ask them what’s more comfortable for them to work with.

… What is anagen and telogen?

Peace, if the hairs are not taken regularly (as seems to be your case), most of them will be in a resting phase (telogen). Usually in the area abound with very short hairs. This means that the growth phase (anagen) is very short (weeks). And rather long resting phase (months). So have a majority in telogen and a few in anagen. Some may at the time of starting treatment, by the shedding. (very few).

Some electrologist recommend shaving the area a few days before the start. In this way, select those hairs that have grown 3 or 4 mm in length: anagen. Those who have not grown at all, are not treated: telogen.

In my opinion, this is an absurd way to lengthen the process.

Josefa: I don’t understand your earlier post correcting me, since you did not correct me, but rather agreed with me completely.

I said the hair does not have to be anagen for electrolysis. What is the problem with this? You agree with me, I think.

Perhaps you misunderstood me when I said that if she waxes (pulls the hair out with strips of wax if translator doesn’t understand), the regrowth will all be anagen hair. This is a scientific fact, not a matter of opinion. If you read again, you will see that I told her it is not necessary to do this, because telogen hairs can be treated and at least damaged if not killed.

Most of my electrolysis has been on telogen hair according to my electrologists.

… have[color:#990000] maximum results.

…because telogen hairs can be treated and[color:#660000] at least damaged if not killed.

With these words, I can confirm that I have not misinterpreted your previous comment.

The problem is that there is a widespread belief that acting in the anagen phase we are certain to kill. By contrast, telogen acting only get damage. This is not true. It’s not a matter of opinion, pure science is demonstrated.

Magical, not long ago (about 20 years) recommended schools to act only in the anagen phase. Fortunately, you’ve found a professional knowledgeable and open to new ideas. Not everyone can say the same.

The proof that this false belief has not yet been eradicated, is the initial comment Peace1

Josefa

Thank you both, so it doesn’t matter what state my hair is in, it will either be killed or damaged?

TELOGEN HAIR = CERTAIN DEATH

ANAGEN HAIR = (Larger area must be destroyed, therefore, more likely it becomes a microscopic portion of follicle untreated). conclusion:

ANAGEN HAIR = DAMAGE INSURANCE, DEATH LIKELY.

Ah that’s cool

Thank you all for your replies.

I hope someone can post links to UK websites with the correct product to purchase for after care. Is honey alright? I was reading on here it’s quite good.

Manuka honey, specifically, is great for wound healing. It may be better than tea tree oil. Product that has a natural antibacterial strength between 16-18 is best. I haven’t tried it yet on my clients as I am still doing some reading and research, but I’m coming closer to ordering some.

If you want to try some yourself and be our resident hairtell reporter, go for it!

Josefa, I did NOT say that telogen hairs can’t be killed. I said that if they aren’t killed, they can AT LEAST be damaged. How is this untrue? Are you implying that there is a 100% kill rate for every telogen hair ever in the history of all time?

I think not.

My point still stands: Telogen hairs can be treated and killed. But if they are NOT killed (and sometimes this happens), then they can at least be damaged. Therefore, I come to the conclusion that treating telogen hairs is a worthwhile endeavor.

EDIT: Josefa, I am editing this to add that you start a lot of arguments just because you misunderstand people and it is frustrating. What translating software are you using? If this was the first time, I would assume it was my fault for being unclear in my opinion on the matter, but I’ve seen you do that to many other people. Maybe you could double check the translations or something? shrug

Josefa

I will try it out and see how it goes.

Where are you purchasing it from? That would be great to know your opinion. Please do come back and report! We’re counting on you.

Dee

Probably somewhere like a local supermarket or there is the option of going to the health store. I have been using ordinary honey from New Zealand for my skin and it seems to have increased the complexion. I put it on overnight but I’ll try get hold of Manuka too.

Querida Josefa,
