I’ve been lurking on these forums for ages & it’s nice to know I’m not the only hairy girl around (: I thought I’d start a journal to share my new journey with electrolysis. I have SEVERAL areas I want to have done… Sides of face, stomach, breasts, butt & back. I’m hairy from head to toe- no fun! I went to my doctor & checked for anything that may be the cause of it, but they couldn’t find anything. It’s not coarse hair (so, I don’t think laser would be a good idea for the areas I mentioned). Most of it is fine to medium thickness, but it’s brown & it’s embarrassing. I’ve been shaving most of my body for years to hide it- not something I share very often! I don’t mind being left with some peach fuzz at the end of this, I know I’m only human. I just want to get this issue under control & feel more comfortable in my skin.
Anyway, I have a long way to go before I get everything done, but I started with my breasts & sides of face two days ago. I had an hour long appointment & the electrologist used flash on an apilus machine. Most of the appointment was spent on the breast area & she did a test on my face because I wanted to see how my reaction would be. I ended up with some tiny pin size scabs on my breasts, but I’m using witch hazel. She got a lot of hair off, but some of it was still too short from shaving 4 days prior. I’m going back on tuesday to catch those hairs & any new ones. I’ll update after that! Wish me luck- this is gonna be a long process, but I’m going for it (:
Went for my second treatment today. I had an hour appointment & spent the whole time on breasts. All of the hairs are medium to dark brown, but they are fine & my electrologist said that makes them easier to kill- thank goodness! I would have liked to spend some time on my face, but I wanted to make sure I got as many hairs off of my chest as possible. Not every single hair was removed, but she definitely got a lot off. Anything left would be very hard for anyone to see unless they were really looking closely. I have another appointment next Thursday. I might make another appointment for sides of face before that. I can’t wait to start seeing some improvement & being able to enjoy hair free time between appointments so I can start working on other areas too. I think I’ve got quite a bit of time before that, but I feel better just knowing I’m doing something about an issue that’s bothered me for years.
I personally needed some blend treatments on the nipple area because the hair is deep. Just something to be aware of. If it seems like it’s not working there with flash, ask for blend.
Any reason you’re not scheduling longer appointments to get rid of more hair at once? The faster you can get to a clearance, the better. Then you just come in for touchups as hairs come in.
Cool, that’s good to know. Thanks (: I’ll pay attention to how those hairs are responding to flash. I do want to try to schedule a longer appointment to get everything cleared off the area, but it was hard even getting the full hour for my upcoming appointment. I guess they’re pretty booked up this coming week. I’ll see how much gets removed next time & go from there.
Ps- I’ve read through your diary of treatments with laser & electrolysis. I found it super helpful & informative!
Had my third one hour treatment on breasts today. Another woman worked on me this time- the woman who worked on me the last two times was all booked. I think more hairs were removed today than any other time. However, I seem to have more tiny red bumps than I did following the previous appointments. It’s only been three hours, though. It could just be because more hairs were zapped, or maybe she used slightly higher settings. I’ll see how it looks tomorrow & maybe get some tea tree oil. I’ve only been using witch hazel so far.
I have a big project I’m working on April 6th through about April 20th. I won’t be able to schedule any appointments during that time because my hours are going to be so crazy. I’m pretty clear now, but I know hairs that haven’t been treated yet will be popping up. I’m thinking of scheduling one more appointment before my project starts to get my face done & maybe zap a few hairs that were missed on the breast area- as long as the red bumps go down.
Red bumps are normal. It will heal. Expect this reaction and don’t worry. If you have some red bumps on your breast area a week after your last treatment, it is okay to get another treatment. Body treatment rules of engagement are different than facial treatment rules of engagement.
Because work got crazy, I wasn’t able to get in for an appointment until yesterday! I did an hour and a half on breasts alone. There still seems to be a good deal of fine brown hair left. I think what I had been shaving before starting electrolysis has grown out by now. It looks like more hair was left over than my previous treatments, but I guess it’s just longer & more visible. I want to get everything cleared off this week because I’m off from work, but I’m going to a busy place & it’s hard to get long appointments. I’m guessing I need two to three hours to get it really clear. I’m a pretty furry lady! I already have red bumps, I may as well get it all cleared off now!
I’m curious- has anyone had any experience removing hair from breasts (more than just around the nipple area, basically the entire breast)? Any advice or suggestions for me? I’d really appreciate any words of wisdom (:
I haven’t updated since my last treatment a couple of weeks ago & I just went for another today- on breasts. I tried someone new today because I felt the woman I had been going to was having a hard time seeing the hairs. She’d stop a lot & ask me to point them out to her. She was so sweet & I never had a bad reaction, but I thought I should try someone else to compare.
The woman today said she could see the hairs easily & didn’t stop to search for hairs. The only thing that concerns me is that at the end of my treatment, I looked & I said it definitely looked thinned out. She said she thought it looked more than thinned out, like we got basically everything. I’m fine with it not being completely bare, but i thought it was a little strange that she seemed to think she got everything. I can still see plenty of fine, brown hairs- longer than peach fuzz- which is ok since my appointment was only an hour, but I worry if she thinks she truly got “everything”… I know they’re not thick & super dark, but I still want them gone eventually! I have another appointment with her in two weeks so we’ll see how that goes!
Sometimes, it takes a few treatments for us to determine what level of clearance a client wants. Most of this practitioners’ clients are probably happy at this point, and she ia perhaps assuming that you are. Clients expectations vary a lot,so on your next visit discuss this. It sounds like she has treated
“worst first”, and will probably take “next worst” on your next visit, until she acheives your desired result. Were you happy with everything else?
Yes, I think she did a good job & removed a fair amount of hair compared to the other woman I’d seen. The first place I went to had an apilus & was using flash on me. I just wasn’t getting the benefits of its speed since she paused so often. The new place is using blend & even though it’s slower than flash, I think she got just as much done (if not more) because she didn’t stop throughout the treatment.
I’d still like to try a couple more people around town just in case there’s a hidden gem somewhere!
Going for another appointment tomorrow morning. I’m not sure why, but my skin seemed to take a little longer than usual to heal after my last treatment. I still have a few tiny, hardly noticeable pink spots. No biggie- it’s just something I didn’t seem to notice after my other treatments. Anyway, I hope tomorrow goes well!
Had my appointment this morning. I think it went really well & she got a lot of the hairs that were bothering me. If I can get 2 or 3 more appointments within the next couple weeks, I think I might finally get the area completely clear!
