My Electrolysis Chin Diary

Hey there! I am a 21 female in Atlanta trying to document my journey with hair removal. Since I was eighteen I started experiencing an abnormal growth of excess hair.

It started with my “happy trail.” It all began when I started shaving the area. Eventually the hairs started to grow more and more dark. While I know shaving does not cause the hair to grow darker, this is just what I noticed. Then I began to pluck and wax the area to stop the dark hair underneath from showing. Since then its been a constant battle with keeping that hair under control. Although the hair has become darker, I have not noticed a spreading of the hairs, they seem to remain at the same number. This has been going on for three years now, about a year of waxing and plucking. This has always been a huge self confidence crusher. I love the beach and in fact love my body, but the hair has made it so difficult to wear a bikini and constantly hiding it from my significant other. Thankfully, just wearing a shirt at least covers up the problem.

Then I started to get a few stray chin hairs. While I have always had a good amount of peach fuzz, that never seemed to bother me. I would just pluck away the few dark hairs and be done. I went from plucking 1-3 hairs in the morning to 10-15 within six months. My face could not handle the constant plucking. The areas would swell and discolor. It reached a point that I could no longer cover up all the spots. I had to go deal with this problem now since I did not want to destroy my skin.

I also have been getting a bit of growth on the inside sides of my legs….ugh!

I’ve done a good amount of research on electrolysis and laser hair removal. Terrified of having any negative effects from laser, I decided to start with electrolysis on my chin. I found someone recommended through this forum who specializes in the blend method. To this day I have went in weekly for five, 45min to a hour sessions.

My main question goes out to you! While I very much like my electrologist. I’m not sure if she is quite as efficient as she should be. I have read quite a bit of threads with women with quite a bit of more hair growth going in for sessions just as long with clearances. After several of my sessions I have noticed she has missed a good bit of hairs. In fact, my electrolysis almost acts overwhelmed by my amount of hair on my chin……this is concerning! I’m afraid she’s not used to dealing with more coarse chin hair. She has also not given me a time frame….or told me when to expect improvement….nor does she tell me if there has been a clearance.

While I am only about five hours in, going four times a month is getting really pricey, I am a full-time student in college. I am already 250 dollars in. I haven’t noticed any hair improvement thus far. Although I can say the spotting has already when down considerably since I have not been plucking for over a month now.

On a side note, I am planning on doing laser on “happy trail” as laser is being offered at a more affordable rate and I have read several success stories. I am more willing to take a gamble with this area.

I have also recently went in for hormone testing and everything is the normal range. I have decided to start on birth control to possibly control new growth.

If anyone has any recommendations for electrologists in the Atlanta area, please let me know! Please let me know your opinion of my electrologist as well.

I am posting pictures of my hair before on both my chin and happy trail.

Thanks for the help!

She’s overwhelmed because there is a lot of hair. Actually, I treated someone last week with a very similar hair growth pattern, predominantly blonde, but about every tenth or so shair comes in dark and course. This is hormones at work, or some other physiological cause.
Every woman has hair on their face. It’s the big dark ones that make us stand up and take notice. The thing is as you remove these, other hairs change just like the original ones did. Sometimes , yes, it’s overwhelming, but stick with the electrolysis and eventually they all will disappear.
I would in no way suggest laser for you. The vast majority of your hair is blonde and WILL NOT in any way be affected by laser, unless that is they are stimulated to grow more because of the laser. Instead you are better off removing all ( dark and light) with electrolysis.Eventually, if you do enough of it, it will subside and you will have no hair.

You really don’t have much hair on your happy trail  An electrologist would be able to deal with it quickly. On the other hand, laser will only affect some hairs. If you find a quick, competent electrologist it may end up costing a similar amount to laser.

As for hormonal BC - I hate the stuff. I think it messes with your body’s natural rhythms. If you don’t need it, don’t go on it

Lastly, I have been seeing an amazing electrologist for my face. The number of minutes I have done with her are listed in my sig. Currently I go for 45 minutes once a fortnight. I’m getting pretty close to being able to lessen the frequency, though.

All cases are individual and it may take longer for some, but the hair you present with on the chin (is that the only area you are going for electrolysis for?) looks like it should take less time to treat. Let the dark hairs grow out so the electrologist is able to treat them easily.

It’s strange that she is overwhelmed by coarse hair. Coarse hair is the forte of electrologists. It’s the fine wispy stuff that is difficult to see, or so I would imagine…

I hope you get some good recommendations, anyway!

Thanks for the replies!

Seana–I will stick away from laser, its just a gamble I don’t want to take. At 200+ a month for electrolysis it can be intimidating.

Emilily–I think I will be starting electrolysis on my happy trail too. Might as well get it all done at the same time, right? At this point, its not even about money but just feeling like I’m making progress. I am going to stay of BC for the time being, I’ve heard that in some cases it can cause more hair growth….and I am terrified of this haha

I’m a little sad no one from ATL has commented, but I’m going to meet with a couple other electrolysis that I’ve found online.

Its been 8 45min treatments, two months in time. This whole process is very up and down, some days I feel confident and others like there is no end in sight.

If there is one thing I have noticed, the hairs are definitely coming back thinner then before. I will post pics later this week.

Thanks for the support, much appreciated

The hair that “comes back” is usually you being able to see the lighter, thinner hairs that were always there but which you never noticed as your time was taken up worrying over the darker, thicker hairs
