Multiple passes

I see much written about the need to have laser settings high enough to kill hair follicles, however the problem is that many technicians use conservative settings so as to avoid skin damage.

What I’m wondering then is why a laser on lower settings can’t be passed over the same area of skin two or more times? To use a crude example, someone might kill an animal by administering a single blow or he might do it by administering a series of less powerful blows, either way the end result is the same.

I know cosmetic surgeons etc do multiple passes when treating scars with lasers. Do hair removal people ever do it too?

To answer this very good question, I would start by explaining it this way as a practicing electrologists - not a laser specialist. We electrologists can do several pulses (beatings) to affect a hair permanently. Pulsing or re-entry into the follicle several times, can help with sensation issues or defeating the follicles ability to grow a hair. The process of electrolysis treats any color of hair, on any color of skin for any hair structure, huge to tiny, in ANY STAGE OF GROWTH (or non growth). Laser cannot do this. Laser is not as encompassing. Laser is not as selective or precise. Laser can only see hairs that are pigmented and they need to be growing hairs. So, several passes over the same area may not get you where you want to go because there are so many limitations when it comes to the science of laser hair reduction.
