More vellus after laser?

Hi All,

I was wondering, does anyone noticed vellus hairs becoming longer and slightly thicker after laser?

All the soft hairs are activated, they are so many!

Yes this can happen. This is why it is not a good idea to have laser hair removal on the face.

YEs, this can happen especially with medium skin tones ( asian, indian/ pakistani ) . Unfortunately it’s permanent and must be removed with electrolysis. Look up Paradoxal Laser Hair Stimulation, or Paradoxal Hypertrichosis for more information.

Definitely

Hi Callmetina,
Yes, what you’re experiencing is known as paradoxical hypertrichosis . It’s a rare but documented response where vellus hairs — the soft, fine ones — become longer or slightly thicker after laser treatment. It tends to occur more often in areas with lighter or thinner hair, especially on the face or upper arms. This reaction is believed to be triggered when the laser energy is insufficient to destroy the follicle but still stimulates hair growth. It’s frustrating, but you’re not imagining it — others have seen the same thing.
