Monarch Med Spa in King of Prussia, PA

Does anyone have info or experience with Monarch Med Spa? I want to try laser hair removal and don’t know anyone who has gone to Monarch. I was interested in my legs (lower) and bikini area.

Any help is so appreciated!!!

Please read the FAQs which explain how to find someone who has the right machine and knows what they’re doing. You didn’t provide any details about your skin type or the type of laser this clinic has, which tells me you haven’t done enough research.

You don’t need a personal experience for every clinic, which is impossible. If you want someone in your area which has been discussed, just run a search for your state or city etc here. But in general, read the FAQs and you will be equipped to judge who knows what they’re doing and has your best interests in mind.

Sorry about that! I have fair skin, dark hair. They use the Candela Alexandrite laser.

That’s GentleLASE, which is one of the best machines on the market for light skin. Go in for a consultation and ask what settings they’re planning to use. Get a test spot too.

I am just conflicted and hope they are good. I know they do many removals… They are having a great special that, of course, ends tomorrow. It’s 30% off your first area and 40% your second area (minus $150 internet coupon.) It’s for a package of 6 treatments…If after the 6 treatments hair returns, you get 50% off future sessions. Ugh! I’m not sure what to do.

There are always packages and deals. They come and go all the time. Don’t let that sway your decision. Also, once you talk to someone and then decide to come back, I’m sure they’ll want you as a client bad enough to work something out. That’s how it usually works.

Make sure you check the terms and conditions in regards to when the hair returns. I haven’t heard of any companies that offer a life time guarantee or anything close to it, as it would leave them very liable.

Benji

Thanks, Benji and lagirl. I had the contract faxed to me and I do have a few questions for the sales rep with whom I spoke. Of course, I’m sure she’ll promise the world --as most sales reps do…

Any suggestions about what I should ask?

And…any treatment after the 6th (the end of the package) is 50% off for life…of course, that’s 50% off the regular price.

So confused…

Make sure all that is in writing. Most people need about 8 treatments btw, if they’re at effective settings to begin with. It makes sense for them to charge at least something after the initial treatments because there are costs associated with providing these services (equipment maintenance, tech’s time, rent, insurance, etc).

I ended up visiting Monarch and it seemed like they knew what they were doing. I had a test spot and decided to sign up for a package. I know. I know. I should have waited two weeks to see what would happen. But, I had laser in my dermatologist’s office on my bikini line 8 years ago–I had 3 treatments. I can’t remember what type of laser it was. I had great results, and continue to be mostly hair free. I thought I was finished having kids (I apparently wasn’t!) When I was pregnant with my son 5 years ago, I had a few stragglers reappear.

Fast forward to now. My dermatologist charges a small fortune and she does not use the Candela Gentlase. (She opened a spa and bought equipment…not at good as the stuff at Monarch.)

Sooo…I had my first “brazilian” bikini treatment at Monarch with the Genltlelase at 14 joules using 15mm. I am waiting to see what happens in terms of shedding. I asked the nurse what settings she was planning to use and she originally wanted to start with 12 joules at 15 mm. I asked if she would try 14…she agreed since I had some laser hair removal years before.

I will say that my skin was pink and bumpy right after the treatment, but was back to normal within an hour or so. Now I am thinking I should have insisted on the 18 mm, too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much in advance!

I would ask for 18mm next time. Max on 18mm is 20j, but on 15mm 30J. Meaning, the power of the joules decreases if you decrease the spot size used.

Let us know how shedding goes.

I’ll definitely ask for the 18mm next time. Should I increase the joules too? I just don’t want to waste these treatments.

Thanks so much!

I personally wouldn’t get treated at anything lower than 14-16J on 18mm. I don’t think anything lower than that produces permanent damage to the follicles. But you also need to make sure your skin can handle those settings safely.

I am going next week for my lower legs…I am going to ask for the 18mm and 16 joules… I hope they don’t have any objections. I will definitely ask them to up the joules and mm size for my next bikini in 8 weeks…
