Hi, I would like to know if there could be some problems with hair removal if I would be using 2 times a day Minoxidil 5% to treat my hair on the front of my head? I wonder if someone has some experience with this - maybe some proffesional electrologists? Thanks wery much.
There should be no problems with receiving electrolysis treatments while using minoxidil.
It is my understanding that minoxidil, a topical product, works on the areas where the product was applied. Something that “could” happen: If you were to transfer the product from your head to your pillowcase and then sleep on your face…and your nose, for example, were to be exposed to the minoxidil, then the hair follicles on your nose could be stimulated to grow larger diameter hair.
I have had clients who used minoxidil on their scalp who received successful electrolysis treatments for other areas.
So if I apply minoxidil just on a small area on the scalp, it shouldnt influence the hairgrowth on my back, shoulders or another parts of my body? I have read that sometimes there is this side-effect…
The side-effect is for the area where the product was applied or inadvertently applied. It should not influence hair growth in other areas.
Yes, I have observed this phenomenon in some of my female clients. The sharp rise in areas not prone to a normal pattern of racial or hormonal stimulation make me think that Minoxidil was the cause.
I have a strange story about Minoxidil: One of my young clients began to apply Minoxidil due to loss of density in the hair of her head. Shortly after both observe the appearance of hair in the middle of her forehead. I asked if, despite this she would continue to apply the Minoxidil (I knew the complex that the hairs on her face caused hem). To my surprise, she replied: “Yes, I want you removing all the follicles that are capable of being stimulated. I do not know if you’ll be here in a few years when I need you.”
Believe me, I was not able to speak. I only say, I hope to live some time.
I have no intention of dying yet!!!
Maybe she was concerned you would relocate (rather than dying!)
And, where am I going to, my dear Caith?
No, I assure you that she spoke of a possible retirement, and as I think one of those who die with their boots on…
I have a few bottles of Minoxidil here (that I have never used), and it gives a warning about female facial hair growth as a possible side effect when used by women. I never used it partially because I was worried about this. (I’d like to do something about my thinning hair, but all of the options have possible troubling side effects.)
I am having my facial hair completely removed (and obviously don’t want to grow any afterward), would I as a genetic male also be vulnerable to stimulating facial hair? Or is it something that only affects GGs?
The most curious thing here is that the outbreak of new hair on this woman was not in the treated areas. This occurred in the middle of the forehead and the temporal area.
It is very clear that Minoxidil has no ability to resuscitate a follicle removed, however, it can act on others who remained untreated.
Apparently the Minoxidil, raises nitric oxide levels, this makes it stronger and less impervious to the capillaries and opens the potassium channel to the cell, unknown mechanism …, but it is known that all assets have the property, produce hair growth.
There may be a scientific reason to discriminate against men of this side effect. But I can not believe that the product recognizes a difference between the sexes. I read that the first tests were made to men indicated a paradoxical hypertrichosis. Chances are that laboratories omit this information because excess hair on the male’s body was not a problem 20 years ago.
I guess I will hold off on the minoxidil for a while just to be safe. That, and I don’t want to make James’ life any harder than it is
I had a slightly different experience. I was using 5% on my hairline as well as on my crown, and after noticing heavy new “peach fuzz” on my cheeks I cut back the use on my crown and stopped using it on my hairline.
The peach fuzz on my cheeks disappeared but the regrowth on my crown and hairline continued. It suggests to me that the effect spreads through the scalp to some degree, and once regrowth has started may need less treatment to continue. Then I cut back to one treatment on my crown a day, then only one treatment on alternating days. I continue to get regrowth on both my crown and some along my hairline too.
Part of why I cut back more than needed to stop the excess fuzz on my cheeks was that I seem to have itchy sores developing on my crown. That is with either the liquid or the foam, and I use proscribed Fluocinolone Acetonide topical drops to reduce it. That seems to work for a week or so at a time.
I’m still concerned that it might slow the electrolysis, which was progressing better when the facial hairs were large diameter, and slowed when they became fine, now month after month seeming to look about the same to me. Could partly be my impatience with it.
