Mini-ipl, are they worth the money?

I was browsing the internet a few days ago, and found this interesting product. The mini-IPL cost approx 5000$, and has these specs:

Light Source: IPL
Light guide: Crystal
supported Wavelengths:
420-1200nm,520-1200nm, 560-1200nm,
620-1200nm, 690-1200nm, 755-1200nm.
Energy 20-50J/cm2
Pulse interval 0.3-1Hz
Spot size 8x40mm
Cooling system: water-to-air cooled
weight 18kg

It looks similar to the radiancy spatouch, but much more powerful. I’m tempted to buy one of these, but need advice…

link to the machine

no, they are not. read through some of hte past posts here. if these things were effective, we’d all be using them

I did a quick search, but didn’t find any info?
what was the conclusion, and why don’t the machines work?

IPLs in general don’t work as well as lasers. Plus, home machines are just not powerful enough. For this much money, you can get many areas treated with a professional lasers (which would be out of business at 60-90K a pop if these things worked). just search by “home laser” or look under a section of this forum that discusses home devices.

How much larger is the spot size on that compared to the 18 mm spot size on the gentlelase? I’ve noticed IPL’s require less zaps than lasers because the surface of the spot size is different. Myself, I’ve never received reduction from either devices, so this IPL very much intrigues me to have for home ues to temporarily create hair free periods for me. After I am finished with electrolysis on my shoulders, neck, and upper arms I think I’ll buy one of these things to zap the hair on my chest and stomach every 12 weeks! Do you need some sort of medical license to buy it?

the device above says it’s 8mm which is tiny. it would take you a very long time to cover all those areas, let alone the fact that it won’t be permanent.

Chuck: The spot-size is 8x40mm. You can buy these items as a private person, or for import. I mailed the manufacturer with som questions, and was somewhat surprise by the answer. They told me right away it doesn’t have the stated power-output, because it’s to small for the 50j/cm2 powersuply and cooling. But that’s not important, as I guess a output of 35j/cm2 would be more than enough (seems they exaggerate the power-output so it won’t look week compared to the bigger proffesional IPL-machines)

Lagirl: I was under the impression that IPL worked well if you are light-skinned (i’m from scandinavia)? I don’t think the MINI-IPL’s ever can compete with the pro-lasers, for many reasons. They don’t have the same power, have shorter service-intervals (20.000pulses), need more time between pulses and will need to cool-down more often. But even with that in mind, if it works I would get one!

everyone on these forums who has tried similar devices really wished they could get their money back. i would never spend that kind of money on this. at 8mm spot size, 35 joules is pretty low on an IPL.

some professional IPLs can be good on light skin for some, but for the most part and for more people they aren’t as good as true lasers just due to the nature of how they work compare to an alex for example. what area are you looking to treat? $5k can treat a lot with professional treatments.

Well I was looking at the same thing, but I was looking at IPL’s from China. I know what everyone is thinking, but I mean you never know they may be somewhat effective. I prefer laser over ipl, but I don’t like the fact of it being so much more expensive. I got treated with the Palomar starlux, and I can say I prefer the Lightsheer over the palomar starlux. I am just thinking if one can buy a machine for $10k and treat themselves with pretty good results then why not. I am thinking about going to China to get treated and see how good these IPL’s are. As for me I’m looking to ger full body treatments, so as everyone knows this is going to be very expensive to get like 10 treatments done at a professional place and still have some hair growing. I really hate the fact of having body hair and I hate going to places and shelling out a thousand every time I go in to get some laser work done. If anyone has any feedback on these IPS’s please do share.

As LAgirl was saying, which seems somewhat true, about everyone switching to buy these home lasers. I’m not sure, maybe people are not aware of these IPL’s made in other countries. I mean I know a lot of people are not aware of this online forum. There are so many people out there that get treated that have no idea of the difference between a Laser and a IPL.

I don’t know I’m not going to buy one, unless I feel that they are effective. As I put on another post. There is a person who stated that they bought one of these machines on another site Hairremovalforum dot com, but I was unable to reactive my account there. She put a posting on like April 15 and was asking about settings for her laser. I will try to send her a message and figure out how well that machine works. Well good luck to everyone and I hope we can all get rid of our horrible hair problems.

It’s hard to be sure because the line in question is mangled and ends in a superscript 2, but the specs and the picture suggest that the spot size is 8 x 40 = 320 square millimeters. Of course checking with the dealer wouldn’t hurt.

crystal 512 has only 22j/cm2 and after 1 session there is difference

You can’t tell is there is a difference after only 1 treatment, even on a professional machine, because the hair grows in cycles. If you say that all treated hair shed, there is a chance. But you didn’t mention that…

It was done 6 months ago 30.5.2008. By now the hair do have a chance to grow back.
IPL device seems to slow down the growth by this session.
I can put a picture of my leg if you don’t believe it.

You had one treatment 6 months ago and all the hair that was treated shed and is still gone? That’s not possible since only around 33% of the hair is visible at any one point. You could have only affected one hair cycle.

Sure. It would be great to see before and after pictures.

From the picture it can be seen that missed spots have more hair.

The picture is very small - hard to tell. Do you have a bigger one? Do you have a before and after? Btw, if the treatment was on that date, it was a bit under 5 months ago, not 6 months ago.

For only one session this is great result, at least for me.
And that counts after all.

Btw I to have some bad experience with other stronger, newer, … device. But crystal 512 is not one of them.

The best protocol for me is to do a IPL session and then wax, instead of doing 10 sessions. But this is my experience.

So you have waxed the area afterwards? How long ago was the waxing when you took these pictures?

i wax only my hands.
