Mexico City?

I’m so glad to have found this forum. My dark hair and pale skin is a nice contrast but my body hair is so noticeable. It grows back so quickly, like by the end of the day I have stubble on my legs (and toes and …). Hormone tests have shown nothing - maybe it’s just a genetic fluke. Anyway, it’s such a comfort to know that I’m not alone.

I’m going to be traveling to Mexico City in December and was thinking about trying out a laser hair removal place there. I did a Google search but I’m not sure about the doctors there. Does anyone have a recommendation or know of a website that I could go to?

I’ve gone to electrolysis here in my home town but found the lady who did it unprofessional (she took personal calls then started late). I did laser years ago and found it took off a large amount of hair but it’s terribly expensive.
Thanks!

Where are you located?

Are you looking to do it in Mexico because of the price? First, I don’t know if it’s necessarily any cheaper there. Second, I don’t know if they have the best lasers there. Third, you need 8 treatments spaced 2-3 months apart, so it’s not like you’ll be able to get more than one treatment in during your trip.

Did you read the FAQs? Are you only looking to treat your legs? What are the costs in your area for that area? Have you already checked out several places and got quotes?

Thanks for your reply lagirl. I just read the FAQ now and it was so helpful. Going to Mexico would be for reduced cost. I talked to a laser hair removal place locally and it would be in the thousands of dollars. But logistically, being that I’d have to go back every 2-3 months, maybe I could start in Mexico, get it done locally and then have my final visit when I go back to Mexico next year. I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

I’m looking to get my full legs, bikini line and half arms done. Based on the FAQ, I have ~15-20 hairs on my face that I’ve decided to continue removing with another electrolysis practitioner.

Thanks again!

The problem is that we recommend to shop around. Just because one place quoted you one amount doesn’t mean that they all charge that. Plus, lasers are expensive, so it’s not necessarily cheaper in Mexico if they actually spend $50K+ on a true laser that would work. Spending a bit less for a treatment that doesn’t work is pretty much a waste of money. In this business, experience and type of laser used are most important to get you results. I don’t know if you can determine this via a short visit to Mexico. Even there, we would recommend to check out 3-4 places first.

Also, I would recommend for you to start with one smaller area like the bikini and see how it goes. Don’t spend thousands up front when you haven’t established yet that the clinic can get you results. Try one smaller cheaper area and see if you want to do the rest of your areas with that clinic.

Bikini usually costs around $100-200 per treatment depending on how much you want gone. Half legs are $200-400 per treatment. Same with half arms (make sure the hair is coarse and dense).

Thanks! I’ll do just that.
