Melanin in the Bulge?

Anyone know if there is melanin in the bulge? In another thread on laser hair removal we were wondering why the laser is less effective or less permanent.

Could it be the bulge not getting destroyed with the laser’s heat? Laser of course needs the chromophore/melanin to heat up the follicle…maybe there isn’t enough melanin near or in the bulge??? Which then allows the hair to regrow/strengthen years later?

Just throwing something out there. This may have already been discussed/disproven?

While there are many reasons for LASER’s short comings, one is the “shadowing effect” of hairs causing an uneven absorption of the light based energy, and varying heating pattern, thus causing the follicle damage to be uneven.

James, by “shadowing effect” are you referring to that portion of the hair shaft and follicle on the opposite side of the laser beam?
