MANY questions! Please read :3

First I’d like to thank those responsible for all the useful information on this site and Hairfacts.com.

I’m a woman, trans, and I want to do my face. I’ll write about that in a sec.

I was reading reviews on the internet and was wondering how reputable SK:N are? Problems can be localised to specific clinics I guess but it would be good to know if they are to be avoided as a whole.

I found a local Harley Medical clinic asking more than £300 per session for the whole face, while SK:N advertises £150/£170. What’s a reasonable way to assess price for this service? Maybe that came out weird but I mean ‘what is a reasonable price’, but like within the context of different levels on a scale of skill and efficacy. Unfortunately there’s no way I can afford £300 every 3-4 weeks atm.

I did find a place on the skinlaserdirectory list linked to here I couldn’t find elsewhere on the internet, which made me wonder what kind of criteria for inclusion there are on this list? It was good to see the list of machines there, though I also couldn’t see specific pricing for different areas on their site- though that’s kinda beside the point, I can phone them or even get free consultation anyway. It brings me to a question about the machines, how do I know which ones are good after asking? Is there a list of reputable brands and models I can refer to? There is http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/39044/1.html, but is this comprehensive, and is it a list of good devices or just available ones?

I’d love to talk more specifically about machines offered by different clinics if anyone is willing to help, but I’m kinda loathe to reveal my location publicly, so maybe a PM conversation?

If it interests anyone, I definitely haven’t ruled out electrolysis, but I don’t think I can handle growing my hair out for it in my present situation.

On the personal side, because I was wondering about my own suitability for treatment, I am in my early twenties full-time living as female a year or two on hormones and have to shave every day, though it isn’t completely terrible. I have dark brown hair, and get sunburn fairly easily.

Here’s a picture of my face after a long day past shaving. The hairs are tough bristles, though softer than before I began hormone therapy. The end of the sideburn is my real hair colour, the rest is dyed. Could anyone offer an impartial opinion of whether I am likely to be right for laser work? Or even electrolysis in the (far-ish) future, if that’s more suitable? Thank you all so much.

Please read the FAQs at the link below. That will provide you with information on what type of machine is best for your situation. You will also find out that you don’t need treatments more than once every 8 weeks or so.

Also, run a search here for London. You’ll see reviews and comments on all the clinics you mentioned as well as others.

You will need to finish with electrolysis regardless. Laser can only remove the coarse dense growth. Finer and sparse hair will remain and will have to be removed with electrolysis.

It’s very important to find a clinic that has a good machine for your skin type AND that uses good aggressive settings that will achieve permanent results. Also, for this area, it’s important that they have a lot of experience to avoid patchy results.

It’s hard to tell how coarse and dark your hair is from your photo. The darker and more coarse the hair, the better laser works. You may want to get a test patch first if you feel your hair may be too light in color, and see if you see expected shedding.
