Managing Follicutis Between Electrolysis Appts

I hate shaving but I know it’s necessary to keep the hair at bay until my electrolysis appointments are over. I would get laser but it simply is not in the budget. Plus I had it before and let’s just say I learned a harsh and expensive lesson with the real meaning of “permanent!”

What can I do to minimize the recurrences of follicutis barbae in between sessions? I know I should not shave much but anything else anyone would recommend?

I like glycolic acid cleansers or exfoliants. If you have dark skin, I suggest Lactic acid cleansers or exfoliants. If you just want to spot treat, tea tree oil or Tend Skin does the job to address the ingrown hair problem.

Yes, I’ve heard great things about Tend Skin. Hopefully I can find some and ordered it online.

Seriously, I would recommend getting a facial hair trimmer and putting up with a bit of stubble. Products like Tend Skin will not only dry your skin out (the opposite of what you want for electrolysis) and will generally just worsen the condition of it.

Glycolic/Lactic acid products, I’d recommend though. Whether a cleanser, night cream or low % peel you can do at home yourself. There’s a UK brand I highly recommend but you can probably get alternatives in the USA.

Thanks all. I will definitely be on the look out for more glycol acid products.

I used nail scissors on my chin hairs when getting this treated and snipped right up to the skin so no one saw a thing worked wonders. I don’t bother anymore since they are paler and not so noticeable.

I do still use cream remover for upper lip half way between going back for an appointment, as I go every 6 weeks now for other area’s I use the remover after about 3 weeks let it grow back in plus more and then go at the 6 week mark, sometimes longer at which state I’d just use scissors to trim rather than snip right back any regrowth. All women have hair on the upper lips so as long as its short and not too black I don’t think its too bad between sessions.

Cream removers last longer than shaving, it won’t take long if you stick with it. My electrolyisis told me to leave a 2 week gap from using the cream on the upper lip before coming to see her again and is fine wit it. Anything that isn’t removing the hair from the root.
