For some reason, the hair on my knuckles really bothers me. I’d like to have it removed with electrolysis. Does anyone have any experience with this? Either a professional or someone who’s had it done?
Thanks

I am actually doing two men who want the hair thinned a bit on their knuckles and hands. Thermolysis or blend will work just peachy. You still need to have regular sessions over a year or so, especially in the first four to six months. Thereafter, the sessions get shorter and are usually every 4-6 weks. I give my men a cotton swab or tooth pick so, they can point to the individual hairs they want removed. Healing is very nice and the ouch factor isn’t all that bad, but a lot of that is dependent on the skill of the electrologist and the the tools that she/he uses.
Electrolysis is what you want for this job.

Thanks Dee. I’m looking to have all of the hairs on my knuckles removed. I’m assuming that won’t take a year?
IT ALL TAKES A YEAR OR MORE. the question is, will it be two hours and 4 visits spread out over a year, or ten hours and 12 visits spread out over a year, or a hundred hours and 25 visits spread out over a year.
Fair enough James. I was just trying to get a feel for what I might be getting myself into. I guess this is better explored with a potential electrolyis Professional during a consultation.
I have removed the hair on one hand and fingers. Relatively speaking, it is easy to remove the hair there and it electrolysis works very well. As James said, it will take at least a year due to the length of the hair growth cycle. The professional you go to can examine how much hair you have and can give you a rough idea how many sessions you will need and how long they will need to be, and give you a schedule when you need to come in for treatment.
Most knuckles that I have done have taken 15 to 30 minutes for first clearance on both hands, and we then can settle in to reclearing them every 4 to 6 weeks. Those reclearances take less time, ending in maybe 5 minutes for the last clearance.
Another way to explain how long will it take questions is to word it like this:
We can ESTIMATE approximate time involved for areas. For an upper lip with average denisty of finer hairs, it will MOST LIKELY take 8-12 months for a total of 4-7 hours, spread out over that 8-12 month period. If one does 15-20 minute sessions one will need anywhere from 8-15 appointments spread out over that period of 8-12 months.
Larger ares like the legs can take 18-24 months with 24 to 30 sessions needed. The sessions need to be over an hour in the beginning clearances.
We have to go with the pattern of the hair growth cycles, which take TIME. We have no control over this and you have no control over this. We are dependent on the rules of Mother Nature.
Large areas, like the legs may require 18-to 32 months of time or a total of 20-30. Hours on the table will be more, but like with everything else, length of sessions diminish as you get cleared each and every time you get a treatment. Again, this is for average density of hair.
Dee
No matter what area you treat, it will take at least 9-12 months because hair grows in cycles. Smaller areas take the least time because you can get clearance on the entire area fast, something on the first or second appt, which makes the rest smooth sailing from there. The fastest way to tackle this is to get full clerance asap and then come in as SOON as new hair pops up every time.
Well, it’s take 2 years, but I’m going next week for my first clearance on both hands. Had my consultation today. Should be good. My first electrolysis in almost 20 years.

Wow, 2 years to decide to do something that will be over in an hour. I bet you will be giggling to yourself when it is done.
