Male getting Electrolysis

Hi everyone,

im a 30 year old guy from Australia who has ventured into the world of electrolysis for permanent hair removal.

i have never liked being hairy, and have always wanted to clear a certain area down south ( i dont think anyone needs any more details other than to know im an avid supporter of Brazil LOL )

about 2 years ago i looked at (and had 1 treatment of laser) and it burnt me beyond beleif, not straight away, but about an hour later my skin went completely black, bubbled and peeled, and lets just say it looked like a BBQ where the saussages had been overcooked.

anyway, 2 years later, the scaring has mostly gone (allot of lost pigmentation) and i decided to try find an electrologist. and beleive me it was very hard, especially finding someone who doesnt mind the handling of awkward areas.

i have found a good electrologist about 10 mins from my house and we have started working on the area about 2-3 months ago. she uses the diathermy method and has been doing this for 16 years so is very competent.

i first had a 30 minute consultation and that also included about 15 mins to see if i could handle the pain etc. this was good so we went from there.

i have been having 1 or 2 hour sessions (and had a 4 hour super session) in an attempt to clear the area.

we are now 12 hours down, and have almost fully cleared the area (as well as picked up some re-growth every week) will be going in for another 2 hours on saturday which should be the last of the clearing.

all i can say for now is WOW, its so nice to have the area cleared (i got impatient so thats why we did the 4 hour clearing session 2 weeks ago to get the bulk done)

i am happy to post some pictures, however i dont know about the 18+ nature of the area, and the photo’s may offend, however if anyone has any questions queries or comments about this being done, i’d love to help.

some observations i have made are,

> use of Emla cream is a waste of time, the pain that is experienced is below the surface far deeper reaching than the emla cream can action.
> the use of pain killers is negligible. ive tried paracetamol and asprin, however honestly my threshold for pain seems to vary from day to day, and i think the medications are just a placebo.
> the areas you think will hurt the most are generally not as bad as other areas. for example, the area around the pubic bone is in fact the most painful in the entire area because it seems to be closer to the bone and not a fleshy area.
> this area takes far longer to clear than anywhere else because every single hair seems to grow in a different direction, resulting in a max run of about 4 or 5 hairs (very rarely)

however in sharing my experience, i have also a few quesitons form other electrologists or people who have had treatment if you are willing to enter into discussion. because there is so little info really on the net (because everything seems to steer you toward laser, i just have some queries)

First: the regrowth i am experiencing is somehwere around 10-20% i presume this is basically because some of this hair was dorment at the time of treatment, and of course, some was not zapped long enough, or the follicle was missed at the time of the zap. my question is, is this a normal result? or am i likely to see closer to say 50% re-growth but the follicles are in a state of shock and not re-growing straight away?

Second: what will actually happen to the follicle once damaged enough to not grow hair? will it atrophy? i only ask because much of the area being treated has the follicles in plain sight (as in visible on the skin because of its thin nature) and i wonder if the ‘lumps’ which are on the skin will remain or if over time they will reduce in size a little?

Third: it seems that much of the re-growth is now coming back blonde rather than more wiry and dark like it used to be? is this a case of the hair follicle having been zapped, but not enough to destroy it, just to weaken it?

oh and one last thing,

i think this is an addiction. i set asside a bit of money to do this area (because lets face it, its not a cheap excercise) but now im starting to want to expand my treatment area, i hate the pain, but love the hair removal. im sure many people here can relate.

yay for hair free.

Congratulations. I am happy that things are progressing for you.

I hope you realize that your experience with laser was not a standard one, but a results of a poor technician setting inappropriate settings or using a wrong type of laser for your skin. This is NOT normal, and the primary reason we recommend to check out 4-5 clinics and learn a bit about laser first before going in to someone random for treatments since there are plenty of clinics out there still mostly concerned with making money instead of figuring out how to get customers results and not burn them. This is actually a very easy area to treat with laser since the hair is usually coarse and dense - but I understand your unwillingness to try it again given the poor experience you had.

I’m glad the results of the burn resolved well for you. They usually do.

Hey LA girl, thanks for the reply,

well to go a little more into detail.

after 2 years, i decided to try again, and went to a new clinic (one overseen by a doctor this time) and found a lady who was also quite experienced as an laser technician.

anyway we did a test patch with 5 uses of the light sheer, with bursts anywhere from 12 to 18 joule’s. the result at the time was excruciating pain, but no directly evident marks etc (until the next morning). the next morning, every single use of the laser left a black square of skin, really badly burnt. and again, the pigmentation issue after it healed.

i think my skin is just extremely sensitive. and being of swedish decent, i am very olive skinned (especially down there) and very blonde hair. so really electrolysis is about the only option.

however that said, i do want to go back to a laser clinic and have my snail trail removed, this is about the darkest hair on my body for some reason, and my stomach doesnt see much sun so isnt too dark.

at least the doctors office that did the laser (the second application that still didnt work) managed to refer me to this electrologist who is now working on the area for me.

i love being hair free

Tis indeed addictive and exciting to see it disappear. Different rates and different stories, but still working toward the same objective. Happy to hear that your burns were not permanent, yet any burn is serious and potentially a health threat. Maybe it is the nature of a forum, but the reports of burns from our non-US participants seems to be higher than within N. America.

I am doing the same full braz treatment with electrolysis and the journey is indeed an interesting one. You are on the most recommended path in seeking full clearance early as the experts indicate a faster and more effective removal. Further, it is more satisfying as well. I have reached it, but am still getting more hair removed and am around the 70 hour mark. With so many variables (talent, hair strength, density, timing, modality, etc), it is nigh impossible to know how long it will take, but be patient and industrious. I am inclined to consider that the actual skin surface is quite extensive (not bragging, just the scrotum) that a significant effort is necessary - and all of it is worthwhile.

Good luck, keep us posted, and enjoy the adventure…

Toyboy, I want to answer some of their observations:

Regarding the EMLA, is it possible that you’ve not applied correctly?. The scrotal skin is very thin and highly vascularized, so it is very permeable. It is necessary to occlude (with film paper) the area for at least 2 hours.

The regrowth you are watching (10 or 20%) is adequate when the professional is competent. It is not really a regrowth, it is the appearance of fallen hair (natural hair cycle) in the days prior to Electrolysis. Electrolysis has the ability to speed up the cycle in the follicles that have not been treated by their effect bioestimulation.

What will happen to those follicles that have been eliminated is that there will never, in whole or in part. Dead forever. Removed the area that produces a new hair you can not turn back.

What you feel more regrowth of the blond and skinny hairs, they are secondary or tertiary hairs which exist in the area and invest more time to show up (fine hair = slow growth)

hey everyone, thanks for the replies

im 14 hours down,

it took 12 hours to clear (of course some clearing treatments also had some re-growth and maintenance removal as well), and have had 2 hours of pure maintenance after.

i have 1 hour booked for friday and i think that will be about all done. i have litterally only had about 100-200 hairs grow back now and it has been over 2 weeks since my last treatment.

im very happy with my electrologist, she is very thorough, and often just does a little bit for free, if our time is up, because i think she likes what she does, and just likes to get areas cleared

anyway, only complicaiton i am having is ingrowns, some of the hairs which she does zap, re-grown and become ingrown. because they are so fine and do not have a sharp edge from shaving etc they become inflamed under the skin and make some pustules. i find if i leave them for a couple of days, then eventually i can squeeze them and the hair will pop out. any suggestions?

im extremely happy with having it done, however for some reason in the back of my head i expect it to grow back, and feel its not permanent, because it just seems too good to be true that the hair is now gone

will keep everyone updated.

as per above, the adiction has taken hold, so now i have to expand the area (no pun intended)

Hi toyboy.

When you get a chance, could you please fill in your location in your profile. Also could you put some information in your signature so we can take a quick glance at your situation?
Something to the effect:

Male, 30 years old
Private area / genitals
Electrolysis start date:
thermolysis (diathermy)
First clearance 12 hours. Total hours spent? Total spent?
Any other info that is helpful and pertinent?

These thumbnail bites are VERY helpful for future “addicts”. Keep it updated as needed.

Thank you for your great posts!

Dee

Tea Tree Oil would dissolve the puss, and a product like Tend Skin, or Bumphrey (or home mixture of alcohol and aspirin) would release those trapped hairs.

I worry that your practitioner may need to alter her treatment settings, as what you describe could be hairs breaking off as she is trying to remove them. This can happen because the insertion is a little off, or because the treatment energy was not enough to fully release the hair system from it’s matrix and get it up and out from beneath the anchor point and into the shaft.

We like to treat on the razor’s edge between perfect treatment and overtreatment, but we tend to error on the side of undertreatment, for obvious reasons.

I would not worry about the hairline work, after all, a look at Wil Smith shows that a good permanent edge up is possible.

(The movie Hancock has a good laugh in store for anyone who has an eagle eye and can spot the tell tale signs of someone who has had it done.)

If you only began electrolysis in February or March (you said 2 or 3 months ago in a previous post), then you aren’t finished. You will be seeing additional growth. Just stay on top of it.

Would you be willing to share with us the contact information for your electrolysis provider? We really need help from everyone to answer the question, “Who is good in my area of the world?” I can’t travel the world popping into every office on the planet (unless you all want to finance a round the world in 80 days type of thing, and book tour and reality TV show  )
