Male Chest Hair removal

Hi
I am having IPL on my chest to remove my chest hair. I’ve had 2 sessions out of 6 and it seems to be working really well.
However my salon will not treat the whole chest area. They say that it is not safe to treat the region above the heart area. Is this true? The whole point of having the treatment is to have a hair free chest. But at this rate I will have a patch of hair around my left breast area.

Any suggestions? Anyone else had this issue? The machine they are using is E-Light(IPL+RF).
Thanks
Dinesh.

hahahahha that’s just plain potty. I would seriously reconsider using the services of an establishment that seriously took this stand or thought this to be true. IPL has trouble impacting hair follicles in a positive way without thinking that it will have any impact at all on an internal organ protected by flesh and bone. Assuming it does work in the long term once you’ve had a break from regular treatments I’d be really interested to see the shape of the hair that is left. Assuming it did work which I’m sorry to inform you is unlikely, will the patch of hair remaining be cartoon heart shaped, don’t be surprised in this hypothetical outcome that this won’t be the case because I would seriously doubt the mental capacity of someone who had suggested potential heart damage as a result of a flashing light. I’m sorry if my reply has a comical feel but it did make me laugh, in fact it might be the highlight of my day when it comes down to it. I really do need to get out more. I’d better remember not to pass by any flashing lights though for fear it affects the function of my internal organs

Well, let’s see… underneath your chest area, you have a pancreas, gallbladder, stomach, liver, lungs, important blood vessels. Why is the heart more important than those other organs? I have never heard this before about light based systems for hair removal. Do you have any implanted medical devices? What do other IPL clinics say about treating the area over your heart?

When I went for my 2nd consult, I remember she asked if I had any medical devices or pacemakers. I figured that was standard medical history they ask for…I would think that one would need to be more careful of devices/items outside the body like hearing aid/molds. Even then I can’t see how an IPL could severely or even mildly damage anything other than hair follicles and tattoos.

And if I am wrong, I will happily eat my words for breakfast as I am no expert

I’ve done IPL on all those areas with no problem at all, that’s the dumbest thing ever. Go somewhere else preferably a place with a real laser and not IPL…

I find this very suspicious!

I have had 10 IPL treatments myself, and I acctually asked the person who treated me about this.
She said it could never be a problem, because the pulses dont go that deep. By far.

The ONLY thing I can think of is that on the collar bone is can be more painful just because the bone is closer to the skin so it’s like treating an ankle for example, you feel it a lot more.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I shall take this up with the salon on my next appointment. I’ve signed up to 6 sessions and had 2 so far. I think it is definitely working because after 2 treatments 70% of the hair has all but disappeared. How long for will be interesting to see. Another couple of sessions and I expect it all to be gone.

I wouldn’t mention that people on a forum told you this, as clinics tend to brush this off as “they aren’t experts”. Instead I’d probably say you have a friend that does IPL in another city and you called her and she said that makes no sense, or that you called another clinic just to find out etc. I find the friend one is better because it doesn’t look so much like you’re questioning their ability.
