Male Beard Removal

I’m a 31 year old male and ever since I started shaving around age 17 or so, I’ve absolutely despised hair of any kind on my face with a passion. What’s worse is that the older I get, the faster and thicker my beard grows. I’ve just freakin’ had it with facial hair and I’m thinking about getting electrolysis done on my face. I tried laser removal back in 2011 and it hardly seemed to make a difference after over a year of treatments. Here’s what my face looks like after 2 days of growth from a clean shave-

Yeah, I know, my beard is rather sparse compared to a lot of other men. Not enough to fully grow, enough to look scruffy if I don’t shave. But it seriously drives me insane since I’m a fairly good looking guy and my facial hair just gets in the way, and no matter how closely I shave I still end up having a vague shadow along my chin and jawline. I realize that a completely baby smooth face will probably never happen (is it possible?), but I would at least like to get my beard reduced enough to the point where I don’t have the shadow on my jawline and chin after shaving.

I’m nervous about this, but it’s something I really want for myself. I just don’t want to waste my time or money, and I especially don’t want any scarring or permanent damage. I haven’t scheduled any appointments yet. I was hoping I could find a recommendation here, but the Michigan section hasn’t had a post since 2011, unfortunately. We’ll see how this goes…

Electrolysis is the way to go my friend. I love my beard, and I love shaving it everyday, I think it’s part of being a male. But everyone’s different, if and when you do decide to get this done come back and give your thread an update, okay?

TEZCAT where are you located I go here… she is very nice and seems to know what she is doing lol… I am only 3 months in to it but i can see the hairs getting thinner and some reduction but they say the first six months is the worst. http://www.glelectrology.com/

I agree with ILIKEDIY. Electrolysis is the solution. It will take about 18 to 24 months of consistent treatments. Choose your electrologist carefully. Get plenty of consults to determine who can move along at a steady pace, give you the best healing outcome, cleanest office, accessibility and skill above all other. Skill is the hardest to figure out, so if you can get recommendations from those that are finished and happy with beard removal, that would be so helpful. Our dear transgender women are great resources for figuring out the skill part. They have been through it!

Thanks for the input everyone. Don’t worry- I definitely plan on keeping this thread updated with whatever I decide to do. I’ll keep all that in mind when I look up electrologists. One thing I want to do is go to someone who specializes in electrolysis. So far, all the places I’ve looked at that have both laser and electrolysis seem to up sell laser a lot more, and just seem to add in electolysis as a little detail. One page I looked at had an entire section dedicated to laser hair removal, and on the very bottom it said “also offering electrolysis by request.” Not somewhere I would trust with my precious face, lol!

rodeogal006- Thank you for the recommendation, but I live in southeastern Michigan, about 30 miles north of Detroit, so going all the way out to Lansing would be difficult. I’m looking for someone in Southeastern Michigan.

Not sure how close this is to you or anything about this person (other than it came on a transgender-friendly electrolysis website which lists them from people who have had successful treatments from the electrologists):

Just something i’d like to mention: there is the possibility that the development of Your beard is still not final. Mine became stronger even in my 40s. Electrolysis can only remove what’s already there - so there is some chance of fresh hairs developing in Your face. But in case this happens a good electrologist will always be able to keep up with this with very little effort
