Male Beard Reduction Electrolysis - Your Strategy?

Hello, I am a male with a very thick beard that covers a large surface area of my face (from the neck all the way to above my cheekbones).

This picture is an example of how high my beard gorws.

After shaving, I still have a visible shadow which is significant by the end of the day.

I would like to permanently get rid of the hairs on my cheek bones and have significant reduction (maybe 50-60%).

What approach should I use? Should I go for a full clearance and then continue to clear it monthly until I achieve the desired reduction? At what frequency should am to achieve clearance. What would be the best electrolysis methode? (my electrologist uses an apilus machine with picoflash) Suggestions?

Thanks

This is what I would recommend: full clearance in areas where you want a clean skin without any hair type, ie cheeks (above the beard line) and the neck (below the beard line). For the rest where you want a reduction of 50/60%, I’d rather make a selection instead of removing all the hair due to a number of advantages: 1) Avoid exposing the skin unnecessarily. 2) Reduce inflammation you might have if all the hairs are being treated (so you can get on with your life). 3) Make things easier in the following sessions.

Precisely at this moment, I am working on a case like yours.

These are the results of a first reduction almost a year later. The client wants to go a little further, because even though the density lowered considerably, there are still many very coarse hairs.

Thank you for your reply.

After discussing my goals with my electrolgist, we decided to clear the entire beard and wait 2-3 months before attempting a second clearance.

Currently, my beard is about 30 percent cleared (done this past week). We cleared most of the hair on the cheeks and below the neck line.

After the second day of electrolysis on my cheeks, my face had gotten considerably swollen ( I looked like a chipmunk). We decided to remove the hair below the neck line at that point to give my face a chance to heal.

Aside from the considerable swelling, there was a little redness. As well, a few tiny pustules developed on the cheeks, which healed within 2 days. There has been no scarring or scabbing (thanks to god).

This weekend, I decided to shave what remains of my beard. I was shocked to notice that despite shaving, There is a considerable difference between the areas that were electrolysized and the area that wasn’t.It is as if I have permanent beard shade on my face (even after shaving).

The electrolysized area is smooth and pink!

.
I am excited to complete my first clearance and see the results.

Of note, I know my electrolgist for 2 years and she has completely cleared my arms and chest. She is meticulous and very precise (uses a Zeiss Microscope).
Only after two years and amazing results, did I gain enough trust to let her work on my face.

Cheers

PS: I have some low resolution pictures, if anyone is interested.

Wow, that is very impressive work!

Thank you Andrea. It has been a difficult case for both, client and professional. But now, it’s like a walk in the park.

Everything sounds great, Smartreader.

Sorry to bump an old thread.

I just wanted to say those are amazing results.

I wish I NEVER had LHR. I should have done my homework and done electrolysis.

Then I wouldn’t have had the permanent PIH from laser -.-

Wow, that’s a great job!

I’ve been doing laser hair removal on my face for two years now and that’s how I looked when I first started - I’m now hair free, except these two ridiculous patches on each side of my chin. The density of my hairs there - on my chin - are SO dense that if I shave, you can still see a shadow. I have to shave there every morning (settings are low on my end because of exposure from the sun).

We figured out a second alternative of possibly putting me on a Candela machine that they use for darker skin (I have olive to bronze skin) - perhaps a HIGH setting on one these machines for darker pigmentation may do the trick. But like the guy in picture, my hair is so dense where I have patches.

Same here.

If I had it my way, though, I’d have gone to a board certified doctor, someone who also is familiar with your particular hair type, does blood tests, etc. I’m remotely lucky that I have a warrantee so I can keep my face maintenced with the Candela. I hear about Electrolysis, but after speaking with various technicians in Miami, all of them conflict with their views (i.e., doing laser and electrolysis about the same time). If any male out there is considering doing their beard, do your research - and do it hard.
