do any men here have any experience with using laser hair removal on their arms? i just want to thin the hair, aka 1-2 treatments. i have dark hair and white skin so this thinning should be fairly permanent? Also, will the laser leave a patchy regrowth, or even worse stimulate growth like in some men! let me know any info is appreciated.pics would be helpful.
Hey Brendan,
Check out this thread, it shows my forearm progress should give you an idea!
thanks guys. edokid, has more hair grown back? i just want shorter, lighter hair with a uniform distribution. how many treatments do you think that would take me?
Laser doesn’t make the hair shorter. In fact, I wouldn’t recommend you to go for it if you have specific needs like that. It won’t be lighter in color either. It’ll be thinner, i.e. finer.
Overlapping well will help prevent patchiness, but nothing is guaranteed.
You’ll need at least 3 treatments no matter what in order to get all hair in various phases of growth. Hair grows in cycles.
This is explained in the FAQs below.
The last image above is 3 months after my 5th session. I actually consider it around 4 sessions though since one was with a Yag, session 4. By that point my hair was mostly fine so I only had around 85-90% shedding, not sure how effective it was.
edokid, your hair looked very spaced out and unnatural in all of your pictures. What did it look like after 1 and 2 treatments? was it spaced out or very natural looking?
Hey mad1, my hair (female) looks very similar to edokid’s after 5 treatments. Maybe a bit less overall but spaced out and variation in density in the same way. I don’t have any pictures of the progress but I remember even after 3 treatments it was kinda like this.
You can see my sister’s pictures in the thread linked in my sig (last post pg 12). 1 treatment gave a slight reduction and it was pretty even (except where she had the test patch, so you can consider that as 2 laser treatments). After the second treatment, it began looking less even.
yes, this is what I am worried about that it will look uneven or spaced out. I am a female with arm hair but not extremely hairy and dont want to risk it being spaced out if I even get 1 or 2 treatments
I don’t find it looks unnatural at all, in the pictures it does more because of the lighting it makes my skin look like it’s incredibly white when I’m actually very tanned. It’s only showing the darkest hair in the pictures, but there’s no “spacing” of the hair that you are mentioning. It’s the same coverage just 60-70% less hair. I’ll try to take another picture later with better lighting or I’ll use my SLR and not my iPhone to give a better idea.
another picture would be great. im really just looking to get one treatment because my arm hair is pretty dark. i just want it thinned out a little. btw edokid, how were the results of using laser on your feet? and how many treatments?
I’ll get another pic soon. One session is not going to give you any noticeable results though it takes at least 2 or 3 to see anything. After 1 it will seem like pretty much nothing has happened.
My feet I don’t really have results because the first session was with Soprano XL which is junk and did nothing, then the second was at my current clinic but they used the 15mm yag for the first session for some reason when they did my feet and legs. I have a really good package price so didn’t really care but I had shedding still but I really only consider that I’ve had technically 1 treatment so really nothing enough to tell…
Once again, please read about hair growth cycles in the FAQs below. One treatment will only affect some of the hair, so once that hair goes into the dormant phase, you’ll see the same amount of growth from the hair in the other cycles. You need at least 3 treatments for a reduction you’re looking for.
edokid - I am still interested to see your other picture.
I also asked the laser removalist about this, and she said you would need at least 3 treatments to have arm hair thinned out, but there is the possibility of permanantly having patches with no hair. Does anyone know if this is because there is a chance that some of the hairs in the growing stage could be grouped together? or are hairs in the growing stage evenly spaced? Any suggestions on how to avoid or reduce the risk of patchiness?
Sorry I’ll get the pic soon I promise!!
You shouldn’t have patchy results ever unless they are missing areas. If they are clearing all areas then it shouldn’t happen. What they may be referring to is the hair type. For example, if the top of your forearms have finer hair and then bottom have very coarse hair, then the laser will of course get rid of the coarse hair and not have much effect on the finer hair. So you’d have uneven results. Patchiness though is would be like having a fully smooth arm, but in some areas you have spots maybe an inch by an inch or so that have hair still because they were missed. I’ve never experienced that after treatments, if they’re doing a proper job it shouldn’t happen.
Erm i know this might be the wrong place but why are you unregistered now edokid? i cant send you a message like before?
According to the moderators, he has left the forum due to time constraints.
What can I expect after 2 YAG laser sessions on forearms?
You need 3-4 treatments to affect all hair in all growth cycles.
