While still healing from the surgery I went through a variety of other procedures to improve my complexion and skin tone. These included laser resurfacing, chemical peels, microdermibrasion and hair removal. Each were relatively minor and noninvasive, but still produced varying degrees of discomfort.

The laser procedures, for example, involved the use of equipment that produced an intense, orange-colored flame that I could see even with my eyes closed behind goggles. As the “head” of the laser scanned over my face to reduce dark sun spots and unwanted hair, I felt like I was being zapped by a cattle prod. The TV cameras recorded me yelping every time the laser hit.
