I asked my Electrologist what magnification she uses, and she said 1.5…is that good or not?
Depends on her needs to see the follicle. I personally have 2.5X and 4X mags and that works well for me, but she may have a great view with 1.5’s??? I don’t know if there is a correct answer here for you, because electrologists conduct their businesses in many ways.
Dee
Let’s just say that more magnification would make for a more comfortable treatment, and make work on certain follicles easier, but what she has is pretty standard equipment.
I must disagree with the statement “more magnification would make for a more comfortable treatment”.
COMFORT is one of those relative things. It is relative to sensitivity and it is relative to the electrologists skills. The electrologist can have giant magnification, but if their skills are bad the treatment will hurt more.
I would say that magnification is not something the client should worry about. I agree with Dee that there isn’t a correct answer. Most of us think that OUR type of magnification (whatever it is) is the best!
Ask your electrologist to join in this conversation and tell us what it is about the 1.5 magnification that works for her/him. Also, your electrologist might have options in magnification choice and perahps sees the 1.5 to be suitable for the work that she does on you. If the 1.5 is your electrologist’s only choice, then I see that as too limiting.
My Electrologist works the 1.5 on me because it’s the only one available to her, but she assures me that is all she needs. I have no reason to doubt her as treatment is comfortable and the hair seems to slide out.

I’m curious why you asked then! Getting good treatments - that’s the issue…and it sounds like she is doing fine for you. If she ever needs different magnification she’ll probably get it!
Hi Max,
About 4 years ago you had an electrologist in England who you said used no magnification at all so compared to NONE, I guess 1.5 is progress!
Good magnification coupled with adjustable light focused with a fiber optic offers the best in vision for this work. Without high magnification and a halogen light source, even tree trunk-like hairs on an upper-lip are hard to see if the hairs are clear, or white, on white skin.
I am in total agreement. It’s amazing what I miss with my 2.5 X when I compare and put on my 4.0 X for the eyebrow and upper lip areas. I encourage the client to bring the magnification mirror that they use at home and take a look after I’m finished so they don’t come back to me and say something like, “You missed some hairs last time.” They appreciate the attention to detail and want them happy when they leave my office.
If they can see the missed hairs, then so can I with my better magnification. It is all a matter of the halogen light not being in a good position when I missed the hair in the first place, but it is corrected right then and there before they go home.
Again, regardless of what magnification one THINKS works for them, I would say that most electrologists don’t have the opportunity to even compare because they don’t own anything with higher magnification to see the what a difference better mags can do for them and their client.

For those interested, I have found the Coaxial Fiberoptic Microsurgical Headlight by Designs for Vision to be choice! Its LED portable, has extra battery pack, can be attached to head, is lightweight and coupled with better mag., enables you to see those vellus hairs clearly.
Clients who were told that their hairs were untreatable because they were too fine and light, are finally able to have permanent hair removal and those electrologists who invest in their businesses by purchasing the better tools will eventually recoup their investment and will help to elevate the profession by being able to provide better service.
You are right Arlene…I did indeed use an Electrologist that didn’t use any magnification at all. She wouldn’t treat me for any more than 10 mins at a time, apparently it gave her a headache…isn’t it any wonder! I have to say in her defence…I did have great treatments, comfortable and hair sliding out, unfortunately very slow and limited treatment times, hence the reason for parting from her.
I always look crossed-eyed at the electrologist that says she can’t afford surgical glasses like mine. You’re a great example, max. The client will stay longer if one can see the hair and thus , hustle at a decent speed. More time on the table equals more money. More money equals the ability to purchase top quality eyewear. Top quality eyewear means going home without eyestrain. There are so many things in this life that go around in a nice circle.
It is like an auto mechanic who says he can’t see where he will recoup the cost of a lift and air powered impact tools. You will just have to pay me by the hour, while I do things in the slowest way possible.
