Does any one know how Lyra-i is for asian indian/arab skin tones? The website of our local laser place just says the following:
Lyra-i™ Laser System
Our new Lyra-i™ Laser System has been FDA cleared for all skin types, for a wide range of indications including the treatment of facial wrinkles, leg veins up to 4mm in diameter, and hair removal and the treatment of shaving bumps.
In fact, the Lyra-i system combines the longest available wavelength with a unique flat beam profile to maximize patient safety and efficacy. The unique flat beam profile consistently delivers energy in the therapeutic range to all targeted structures. The Lyra-I uniquely avoids high peak powers ensuring patient safety. All Lyra-I patients are protected by patented continuous parallel contact cooling that protects the epidermis.
These unique features provide optimal results through deep penetration to the hair bulb, deeper leg vein and to the papillary dermis for dermal remodeling while maximizing patient safety
Continuous parallel contact cooling combined with 1064 nm epidermal transparency protect the epidermis, permitting the safe treatment of all-skin types, and patients with recent sun exposure.
The Lyra-i is a Nd:YAG laser and is meant to be used for darker skin. The LYRA-i a crappy YAG laser because it has a small spot size (7mm) so it’s not very powerful. A GentleYag has a bigger spot size and would be better (18mm). So search around your area.
You can also do your own search here on hairtell using the ‘Search’ function. type in ‘lyra’ and then not less than 4 years. Search lagirl’s posts.
Hey! I just realized it’s December 10th! Welcome back from your vacation and all I got to say is, “I’m glad your home!” so you can answer these laser questions. Hopefully, we did a decent job while you were away. We could never replace you, lagirl, so dig in.
Thanks. I’m back and still somewhat jet-lagged However, the trip was great. Lots of catching up to do at my actual daytime job right now, but I’ll promise to get to all the questions I missed this week. I’m sure you all were great!
When i told them to specify what laser they used she said dial laser/ radio syneron which i have no idea of for arab/olive skin tone. For a full face, they do it in 2000 bucks plus 2 years guarantee. Is that a good deal?
Click on the search button at the top and type in American Laser Center. Lots of information has been contributed here about ALC. The words “thumbs down” comes to mind. Go to www.cosmeticenhancementsforum.com and do another search.
Do have some skilled, modern electrolgists where you live?? For the face, electrolysis would be less risky and permanent. Think GentleYag if you are going to lase your face, but again I’m cautioning you on this one. If you make the decision to lase your face, then at least you will have been warned of the risks. There are too many posters that come here and talk about laser hair stimulation on their face. This is confirmed in my own practice as I am seeing and have seen too many women that had laser and now need electrolysis. Basically, they need to start all over again, except they have more hair than when they started this hair removal venture! Are you a woman? Think carefully before you jump.
If you can be more specific on where you are in Michigan, someone may be able to come to your rescue with the name of a good electrologist or laser operator.
Treating a male face is tricky with laser. Run a search here and read other posts about it. You need someone who knows what they’re doing and has experience treating that area specifically with a Yag laser. Also, you need to have correct expectations. You probably won’t get it all removed and forever. But you can get a good reduction that will help you get cleaner shaves and shave less often.
Electrolysis is another option and it will be a committment. Make sure you can devote the time and money for it. Please read the laser FAQs below as well as the sticky post on how to find an electrologist on the electrolysis section of this forum.
