Lye production

Hello, this is my first time to post. I have only been doing galvanic electrolysis for a year. I wonder if anyone has tips thru could share in regards to lye production. Sometimes it takes forever to produce lye in the follicle, other times it takes a few seconds. I understand that hydration plays a key role, but if the client still does not seem to achieve a good production after recommending increased water consumption, is there something else I could try? I think saline or moisturiser at the insertion point would result in burning the skin. Would a sebum like oil protect skin better and possibly help with lye. I know it would aid insertion on the dry skin but unsure if more than that. Would it help to have saline on the inactive electrode rather than just water (which is all I use now). Apologies if these are silly questions
