LUMENIS Lightsheer Duet Laser London Diary

Hello everyone!

I thought to start a diary on treatments which I am currently undergoing in London,UK and the clinic where I am being treated is using laser - Lightsheer duet.

I had my first laser session 10 days ago. Areas treated- lower legs, underarms, hollywood (full bikini). I will update on what type of skin I am, but I have quite fair skin, tan quite easily, rarely get burned(never on legs) and my hair are dark (from black to very dark brown) and quite coarse.

The treatment itself was not painless just a very tiny pinch, which is nothing compared to waxing, even the bikini area.

So far my underarms and bikini have been shedding very well, I have around 65% of hair gone. At first the hair appeared like they were growing, but it is not growth, as I understand the dead hair are just being pushed out (correct me if I am wrong), after that “growth” I just pull the hair with fingers, and they come out without any resistance or pain.

However my leg hair are very slow with shedding. I probably have around 10% gone so far.

I have a couple of questions
Will the hair continue to shed, since it has not been even 2 weeks after the treatment?
I am thinking of going back their in a week to do my upper leg, if the hair has not been gone by that time can I ask them to treat the areas with hair again (maybe they missed some bits)?

I was very hesitant with going to this clinic, because their prices are very very low (35 pounds per any area), but it seams like the treatment is working. Also, could it be that the setting which they are using does cause the hair to fall out, but it is not strong enough to actually kill the hair follicle so I will have to go there for many many treatments?

I am going to ask the practitioner about the setting next time I am there.

Hope you can give me some advice!

If anyone can answer my questions I would greatly appreciate it !

If the hair was treated with laser, should it shed no matter at what stage of growth it is at? So if I have hair which are not falling out it means that they were missed and not treated? How long should I wait before going back to the clinic to ask for a touch up in the missed area?

Hello SaMaria,

I wanted to share my experience with this laser – unfortunately it was not successful for me. I’m Fitzpatrick type II (very light skin and dark coarse body hair) and I have done a course of 6 treatments (full legs, brazilian and underarms) religiously attending every 6 weeks. The clinic used Lumenis Lightsheet Duet, the practitioner appeared to be quite experienced with 12 year of laser experience under her belt. She used quite high settings on me – high for this machine anyway – fluence of 11.5J during our last session (the machine’s max is 12J for HS).

Each time about 60-80% of hair would shed and the majority would grow back very quickly. In retrospect, this should have been a red flag for me, as now I learnt that if the treatment has been done properly, all hair should shed. I estimate that after 6 sessions only 50-60% of hair on my lower legs and maybe 40% on brazialin and underarms are gone, which is disappointing. The remaining hair is still dark and coarse. The laser did virtually nothing to hair on my upper legs.

Now I found another clinic that uses GentleMax laser and will start my treatment with the Alexandrite laser in order to try to get rid as much hair as possible.

Hope this experience would be helpful for somebody.

As I do electrolysis on clients, who report that they had laser and it didn’t work, I have a birds eye view of the hair structure and color. What I notice about a lot of the hair as I treat it and lift it out gently, is the hair bulb might have no color or it may have a little color, but it is surrounded by a root sheath that is white.
Laser cannot see colorless structures. This may explain some things.

Also, the energy levels need to strong enough to reach hairs deep below the skin. If it can’t, then the hair may not be fully treated.
