Lumenis Lightsheer Duet didn't work for me

I had 4 treatments of the Lumenis Lightsheer Duet spaced 4-6 weeks apart to remove hair from my back and shoulders. Initially the results seemed good. However, within 3 months of the last treatment most if not all of the hair seems to have grown back. And worse still, the hair on my upper arms which was quite thin and sparse when I started the treatment is now thicker and more numerous. Oh yeah, and the laser gave me bacne too. So the treatment was useless and a waste of my money.

I asked the technician what settings she was using and she said 7.5 (whatever that means?). She also said that the maximum setting is 12. I have brown Fitzpatrick IV skin.

Can the professional laser people here tell me if there is anything I can do / what should I do? Thanks.

Hi Trailrider! You said that the laser gave you bacne. I wonder whether those acnes are ingrown hairs from laser?

Hi Trailrider,

Sorry to hear about your results with laser. The upper arms, shoulder, and back are a tough spot for males as this hair is very androgen-sensitive, and almost anything can stunt vellus hairs to turn into thick terminal hairs. Lasers seem to be a big contender in this ‘conversion’ process. Electrolysis is recommended to clean up the work, as it guarantees permanent removal.

Please visit the Electrolysis forums and do some reading on how what questions to ask, how to find a practitioner, and stick with a regular routine. Good luck and sorry this has happened to you! :\
