Looking for a little reassurance

Hi everyone. I’m new to electrolysis and have a few questions. I’m a 27 year old female with PCOS and male pattern beard growth on my face. My hormones are in check (for the moment) and I have become so frustrated with other non permanent methods of hair removal that I am ready to try electrolysis.

I had my first consultation last week and the lady I saw seems to be a good choice. She has 20 years of experience, was more than willing to sit there and answer my questions for 45 minutes, and did a test session for me once I ran out of questions. The place was clean. She used an Apilus Senior 2 and a 3 gauge needle. The pain was minimal, I could not feel the insertions, and there was no plucking sensation when she pulled the hair out of the follicle. In general, my skin handled it well and I feel like her skill played a big part in that. She worked on me for five or ten minutes and there is one spot of discoloration and one small scab that has already fallen off. Otherwise, I couldn’t even find the other spots where she removed hair. I’m looking for reassurance that this discoloration is normal. Pictures will follow in the next post because I realized I have to resize them.

The first two were taken roughly 16 hours after treatment. The next two about 36 hours out, and the last one at 4 days. Sorry for the quality. They were pretty good, but resizing them for here made them a little bit blurry.

Welcome to Hairtell.

You have nothing to be worried about. She may have had to use more energy to get the hair to slide out, so you will need more time to heal.

There will be TEMPORARY skin side effects because we are destroying tissue. Funny thought just went through my mind. No one goes to Internet searching for answers about whether a bug bite or a skinned knee skin reaction is okay. They just know that the skin reacts to trauma and given a little time, it will heal well and all will be fine!

This is the same for electrolysis. Don’t worry.

Thank you for the pictures ! Very helpful!

Thanks for the answer! I figured that was the case because I have been lurking on this forum for a couple weeks, but I am somewhat of a high anxiety person. I looked at the pics after i posted and it looks like the mark has faded significantly in the last 4 days. The hairs in that particular area are deep and I have admittedly been using an epilator on my face for the last year or so. Don’t worry, i’ve switched to shaving for this process. I should also say the in spite of that minor discoloration, I felt comfortable enough to book a session for later this week. Other that that, I was VERY pleased with how my skin reacted and I do intend to show the lady the pics just so she is informed.

I do have a couple of questions about after care. Exercise is very important in managing my PCOS and I will try to allow for 24 hours of healing time before I go and get really sweaty, but that won’t always be possible. If I am very careful about washing my face post exercise, do you think this will be a problem?

Also, this week my appointment is on Wednesday. It’s for ten minutes, just because i’m a little too anxious to book longer yet. On Friday, some friends and I had planned to go to the lake. I don’t really sunbathe, mostly swim. If I am careful about applying sunscreen and washing off the lake water afterwards, will this be ok?

As soon as Eric gets back from lunch at “The Fish House” fancy schmancy … he will be putting up a new video that I hope and pray will give answers to this question (probably not?).

The title is: the Healing Skin: the CHIN. The vid is based on photos a woman sent me from another country. About the lumpy-bumpy post treatment skin. Video is finished, rendered and ready to be posted on my channel.

Kinda long (6 minutes) …

Note to fellow zappers: Maybe when I get enough of these types of videos up … the eternal questions will be answered more easily by just watching the explanation? (Probably not?)
