Long term effect of waxing

Hi,

I’ve been comtemplating for months on whether to have my upper lip waxed or not.

I’m Asian and have some light hairs on the upper lip, and I really want to remove them.

I read in one of the post that if I’ve had regular waxing, the elecrolysis won’t be that effective.

Any thoughts on this. If I intend to have electrolysis done in the future, is it not adviseable to have my upper lip waxed?

Thanks.

Electrolysis works no matter what temporary method you used before, waxing included. Electrolysis will permanently eliminate hair of any color, any size, on any color of skin. When you decide to start electrolysis, you must cease all waxing and plucking to allow all the offending hair to come to the surface so it can be seen and treated.

It is strongly advised not to start waxing on the face especially, because this only serves to strengthen the hair over the long run. Also, if you wax, you can not be selective in which hairs to remove and which hairs not to remove, soooo… you needlessly rip out the unnoticable hairs as well. The frequent and many attempts to wax hair away may very well result in those hairs being fed by a blood supply that rushes in to mend the damage to the follicles and as we all know, blood carries hormones and hormones stimulate hair to grow deeper, darker, and coarser.

Shaving would serve you better until you do electrolysis.

I would say start with electrolysis right away. You don’t seem to have a lot of hair, probably same as when I started, on this area. It took me less than 10 electrolysis treatments of less than 15 mins each to get rid of everything permanently. No point to wax. If you want temporary method, shave or use Nair instead to avoid removing fine hairs unnecessarily and making them more noticeable.

So can waxing/sugaring or otherwise removing hair from the root increase hair growth on other parts of the body as well? I’ve heard that if you wax long enough the hair becomes weaker and doesn’t grow back as thick, yet I’ve heard the exact opposite as well. Which is correct? And is it different for different parts of the body?

Yes, waxing/sugaring/plucking can make the problem worse in this area. Basically, it depends on the area (and where the hair came from in the first place, but lets make this simple). I suggest NOT to wax the upper lip, chin, neck, breasts, or abdomen. Most people have great results waxing the arms, legs, bikini, and eyebrows.

You won’t get more hair growing on OTHER areas when you wax one area, but it is possible for the hair in that area to become darker and more coarse due to blood flow stimulation.
