Jador,
Lyndon Johnson (an American president) had a statement about “recommendations.” Unfortunately, I can’t quote it because I would be thrown-off this site. Yeah, LBJ!
For me, I only recommend people who’s work I have actually seen. I don’t recommend “nice people,” or friends. I don’t recommend people from what others have said … that’s hearsay and is not valid (at least for me).
Here’s what I recommend. If you find someone who appears your “cup of tea,” ask her if you may speak with a couple former clients. I do this all the time. The surgeon I work with also does this (from the UK by the way). Yes, certain patients are happy to discuss these matters.
My only requirement, that I ask of former clients, is that they ONLY tell their story exactly as it happened … the real deal and what they really encountered. Electrology is not a “walk in the park.”
A patient that has full understanding of what they are facing is always the best patient to deal with. And, all that “website advertising and those glowing testimonials?” Don’t believe one damned word of it! (Besides, you know where the word “testimonial” came from? Well, there it is!)
Some of the most notoriously horrible/disgusting electrologists have the most beautiful/professional websites! Actually for me, a “too slick” website is a clue that this is all probably crap! Get the facts from real patients who have “been there - done that!”
Yes, I am “hard” and not well-liked on this website. But nobody can ever accuse me of being disingenuous. I’m like that old teacher you had (and hated) and then years later had affection for because he make you think for yourself. I think that’s worth something.
jador the board was upgraded last week and a few posts were lost.it’s likely yours was amoung them
Seana
The board is still being crazy. I replied in Helen’s thread this morning and the post appeared but now it’s gone. I had troubles with a pm showing up blank today as well.
must be the “El Niño!”
Sorry about the troubles, everyone! You may need to clear your cache for the updated site to show posts. Please let me know if you continue to have problems with posts disappearing or reappearing.
Andrea,
It appears to be more than that. Posts are continuing to disappear, and this tells me that something is broken between the back end database and the front end of the website. This can happen during upgrades, especially when there are mismatches between the previous data format and new database format. I’m betting the logs are full of errors at this point (you DO have logging enabled …RIGHT?).
Did you happen to back up the site and database before the upgrade? As far as I know we werent experiencing problems before, and it may be possible to perform a restore if you did. I’d rather lose a couple weeks of posts than lose 10 years of posts and have problems besides.
There also seems to be issues with the style sheets for the new software, and that is making it difficult for people to paste anything into here content wise. This doesnt affect me as much because I rarely paste posts.
It’s been a couple years since I troubleshot LAMP servers ( Linux Apache, Mysql and PHP for those non-technical amoung us) but if there is anything I can do to help let me know.
Seana
I’m doing Seana’s test …
Testing, one, two three ….
I was doing Seana’s test … didn’t work.
No big problem, I now have a silly work-a-round that seems okay.
Thanks Seana … smooch!
Thanks, we continue to look into this.
One factor that may have been at play was a time difference between the server’s clock and the forum software… there was a 4 hour offset that may have ended up pushing posts into a limbo for a few hours after they were made. Have any “lost” posts “resurfaced” after several hours/a day?
Actually I did notice the time difference. If you look at the forum list, it will have a different timestamp than the recent posts list for the same article. I never noticed, because the time settings NEVER seemed to work . I just got used to the fact the posting time was complete rubbish.
Upgrades are REALLY difficult to pull off on forum software, many of which are abandonware/freeware and have little supporting documentation. Be patient folks, I know Andrea and her techie are working hard on making it all work.
heh, now I have a “perpetual new private message” flashing envelope that wont go away no matter how many times I click on michael’s message. Meh, I can live with it.Sort out the important stuff.
Seana
thank you all for your replies
if anyone wants to post about problems with the forum can you please start a new thread so as not to derail this one
a little surprising 428 views and not one recommendation i would have thought with london being a major city there might have been at least one
Maybe do a search for london electrologists within this forum, I know there have been plenty of posts about it before.
You can contact the British Institute & Electrology Association. They will have a list of names for you. Recommendations don’t mean much unless from an actual client.
As they say, you are going to have to “do your own homework” on this to find the perfect fit. Actually, everyone (regardless of “recommendations”) has to be diligent to find his or her right match.
I can recommend Geri who also posts on here. You can send her a PM for her availability.
