Hello, I’m just wondering whether anyone here has ever had IPL treatment at Depicool in Covent Garden? http://www.depicool.co.uk
It appears to be the cheapest IPL around, but there don’t seem to be any reviews anywhere which makes me slightly wary. It’s a £49 flat fee for any treatment (although it’s £49 per leg or arm). Is this perhaps too good to be true and a little too cheap? If anyone has any views, I’d be interested to hear them as I’ve been wavering between trying this out or going to Sk:n as my sister’s had a good experience there (but is also tempted by Depicool’s cheapness).
What makes this IPL different from all the hundreds of othe IPL’s that have been or are on the market now? Can you provide some specifications on this device?
We don’t recommend any IPLs for hair removal treatments because they’re not nearly as effective as true lasers, and they cannot be used on somewhat tanned and somewhat darker skin. Plus, many complain that results are only short-lived.
Cost shouldn’t be your main concern if you’re looking to actually get results from your treatments. Please read the FAQs at the link below to understand what will get you results. There is a description of the differences between IPLs and true lasers.
Hello Hello, I am currently having IPL with Depicool, its pretty good, Ive only had a few sessions so I cant really endorse them, but as far as the experience so far goes, I am very happy. Cheap, nice people, and Im quite happy with the way things are going. So we’ll see, but yeah, as far as a recommendation goes, I would say go for it. And and and, it doesnt hurt, which is a big bonus
I don’t really believe this will work if it doesn’t hurt. Sorry.
Can you give the specifications on this product?
i have no idea what kind of machine it was, but the girl put gel on me first, then used a handpiece and zapped my skin, slightly hot sensation, but really, i dont think it was painful? i keep reading on the internet that its like someone pinging a hot rubber band on your skin, i suppose, but i dont think it even measures up to that? either way i had a good experience and am going back again for my next session!
on a seperate note, has anyone else tried depicool? ‘totalnerd’ is right, there is not alot of info about them on the internet, or even in general???
I’ve heard about that kind of franchise ideas in the past, the idea was to bring IPL machines because they are very cheap and break the market with very low prices.
If it doesn’t work, then you may end up with induce hair growth and hair that will be much harder to treat by other professional machines.
Usually those kind of places go out of business very fast because they can’t handle the amount of unhappy customers and low prices.
EDIT: it is also common for IPL to seem like the hair is gone but then after a few months all returns to normal.
oh no really? i thought i was getting a little over excited too early! is that what depicool are renowned for? just breaking the market with cheap prices but not delivering the results? great!!! thanks for the insight though, good to know, throwing my money down the drain again!
Don’t take it the wrong way, i have no idea about them. But, I’ve heard about that method of franchising before which seems exactly the same as this place you tried.
I personally don’t trust any IPL machine (for very good reasons) and I’m even more skeptical that they hide the identity of their equipment.
The idea i heard was to provide IPL machines from some brand and alter them in such a way that only the franchise will have those “machines”.
Thing is, if it works or not is impossible to tell unless someone say they tried it and it’s no good. Until then it’s only speculation.
i wouldn’t let someone’s sales pitch get you excited about actually getting results. the fact that you’re experiencing little to no pain basically means that you won’t. if you want actual results, there are only two proven methods, true laser or electrolysis. some IPL machines can get you results as well, but those results are more uncertain. since IPL treatments are not usually cheaper than true lasers, i don’t see a reason not to go for the best if you actually want good results.
another way to tell if you’re getting results is to see if there is shedding. all treated hair should shed within 2-3 weeks of your treatment. if it doesn’t, you’re definitely wasting your money.
so far so good!!! had another session of IPL, and im feeling pretty positive! im not expecting instant miracles, but there is definatly diminshed hair, for sure! and, i was super cheeky and moved from covent garden to their other centre and got the cheaper deal! scoreee!
How are you judging results? Are you seeing all treated hair shed within 3 weeks after treatment? That would be an indicator. If you’re not seeing this, it’s doubtful anything is happening.
There is some shedding yeah, not epic, but enough hair falling out for me to think it is working on some level. The thing is, I dont really know what im looking for, so when I see hair falling, I assume its working? Like I said earlier, I was a bit dubious because its only 49 quid, and cheap usually means…well, pretty rubbish, but Im pretty happy. I dont want to spend 49 pounds each time forever and ever though!
ALL hair should fall out within 3 weeks. If you pull on any hair after 1.5-2 weeks, it should all slide out without resistance. “Some” shedding is not ok. All hair needs to shed. Whatever doesn’t shed wasn’t affected.
I wouldn’t concentrate on the price. Like you said, you’ll be spending that much forever. You may as well wax if you’re looking for temporary results. It’s cheaper. If you want permanent results, I would invest some research time to make sure you are getting good effective treatments.
I have recently been researching Depicool on the internet, following the same questions as Katie… 49 is a good price and I was curious about the quality. But I too have now been to one of Depicools London stores and like you have been pleased from the results. I have got a few things to add to this though… I know LAgirl says ALL hair should fall out within three weeks, but I have been reading the website and from my understanding hair grows in cycles, hence IPL (wherever you get treated) can only target those growing hairs. The Depicool website enforces this, and clearly states the same - that IPL treats growing hair. If the hair is … how´d you say… “resting” I guess, then it can´t be treated and therefore won´t fall out. I guess this is why the treatment is progresive - not long term - but the same as laser, done over a period of time to let all the resting hairs grow back and get targetted.
I asked the girl when I booked if this was permanent hair removal, and was told it was permanent hair reduction - the same as laser. The only method of permanent “removal” was electro something, and to be honest - that sounded pretty painful! So for now, I´m sticking to IPL and as long as I continue to see results then I am happy. Its better than shaving by a long shot!
“electro something” that you mentioned above is actually called [size:14pt]ELECTROLYSIS[/size]. It has been around for 140+ years. Electrolysis does not get the respect that it deserves, unfortunately. It works and it it’s not pretty painful when performed by a well-trained or re-trained modern electrologist. Keep that information in your back pocket in case you need true permanent hair removal someday.
Electrolysis sensation depends on equipment used and practitioner skill, especially with making proper insertions. Electrolysis is not pretty painful as you said when done correctly. Tattooing and laser hair reduction is far more intense than electrolysis. Those procedures really hurt! I’ll tell you what - for the vast many that start with a light-based system, they end up seeking electrolysis in some form or manner down the road. I wish a good outcome for you. Not sure what area(s) you need hair removal help. It would be important for you to research and take a deeper look so your expectations match what you are paying for. I have seen good results with IPL and I have seen hair stimulation.
This is your first post and I hope it won’t be your last about your observations with Depicool. Give it a year to year and half. Beyond that, do nothing and see what happens six months later. Posts made after a year to two years are ones consumers are most interested in.
Thanks for your post.

I currently get treated at sk:n clinic too. Do you know what laser they use and if it is diferent from the ones used in depicool? If they’re the same then it’s worth switching over cos it is so much cheaper
btw when i get hair removal treatments (at sk:n clinic)it hurts like mad in fact i have to apply an anasthetic cream to numb the pain, but i read somewhere girls have higher thresh hold for pain so might be different for you. So the point being made in one of the posts could be rather valid re effectiveness of the machines used by depicool!
Yes, hair grows in cycles. That has nothing to do with shedding. All treated hair should shed no matter what cycle it’s in.
