london clinics and special offers!

Hi there
so sorry for posting a new topic (I have searched the forums for advice on LHR in London).

Just wondered if there was anyone with experience of using Skin Oasis clinic?

http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/london/SkinOasis/444895

I found this groupon voucher but I’m wary of paying for something before I go and have a consultation and see what the clinic is like. Their website says they use Alexandrite lasers which from reading these forums seems quite good?
I’m looking at having full bikini and maybe underarms too.

Any other recommendations of london clinics? I am going to book a consultation with Timeless Skin Care too.

Thanks so much and apologies for asking again!

Can you call them and ask which Alexandrite they use?

It’s really impossible to advise you until you can come in for consultation and they can tell you what settings they will use. You basically want to find a clinic that’s aggressive and doesn’t undertreat, which is impossible to tell over the phone or via their Groupon ad.

I just phoned them and they said they use the Cynosure Elite -Alexandrite, which she said was a gold standard for fair skin? The lady I spoke to was really really helpful, made me feel a lot more secure about purchasing it!

Thanks so much for your help!

Elite is both an alex and a Yag. So that machine can handle any skin type. It’s a good machine in good hands. As long as they use good settings, you should be good.

Thank-you both very much! I’ll post back and see how it goes!

People should be very careful with those deal, quite a few companies who are giving the deals are going bankrupt.

I’ve seen a big restaurant in my area that was opened for 1 month and after they invested in the place close to 1 million dollar in renovations go bankrupt because they were full with non paying customers for the next 3-4 months.

Those Groupon sites are misleading in getting businesses to think that people will come back after the deal and buy there, that rarely will happen.

There have been a bunch of articles about it - search Gawker. Judging from various feedback, it depends on what type of deal the company offers. The smarter ones create offers that help their business. Others are not so smart.

In my area i heard about places offering the whole body treatment with guarantee for life on results.
If that doesn’t scream “please take my money” to people then i don’t know what does…

I signed up for this deal. Will be getting consultation in mid-July so will come back with details. I want to thank all the people who have posted on here - I’ve learned a lot and feel confident that I know what to ask and demand.

Yes, indeed, the best way to pay forward for what was given to you is to follow up with your experience so other can benefit. We look forward to hearing from you - thanks very much.

So I went in for my consultation. I am pale with black hair which is quite thick. Doing an extended bikini line. These are the numbers the lady gave me for my test: Settings for laser hair removal:
15 joules, 20 pulse width, 15 spot size.

Is this on the alex or the Yag part of Apogee Elite? What is your Fitzpatrick skin type?

Alex and I’m type II.

Those settings are somewhat low for a type II. The joules in particular. On 15mm, you should be able to handle settings of 20J+.

I told her it felt quite light so I’ll ask for higher joules on the first appointment - what is the max setting so I know what to ask for? Thanks LAGirl!

See what sheds at 3 weeks. If there is more than 10% of hair remaining at that point, ask for an immediate free touchup.

They should test you and see how high they can go on the joules. It’s probably fine to leave pulse width the same, but lowest is 5ms.

Went last week and they didn’t want to go above the original test settings for this first appointment, though they did say they’d up it for the next one. I felt pinpricks but really didn’t have any redness or anything afterwards so I know I can definitely handle higher joules. I will see what sheds by 3 weeks.

There is no point of paying for treatments that are not aggressive enough for permanent removal. And there is no point of waiting to increase settings. If they think your skin can handle it later, it can handle it now too.

Yes - I’m going to go in next week to talk to them. They missed a few spots (most of my areas have shed) and I want them now to do a few tests at higher settings before my next appointment as well as dealing with the spots they missed. I have no problem complaining to get good service.

If less than 10% is missed, I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If it’s more than that, you can ask for a touchup.
