Local anaesthetic

Has anyone else had resistance to local anaesthetic? I’ve had two sessions for Brazilian area and the first one was painful. I got smeared with goop and Saran in small parts at a time to prepare me for the needle, which was painful still, but I was able to deep breathe through it. The electro guy had to keep reminding the nurse to change the needle and at one point he left the room and she moved to freeze an area that had not been pregooped and I yelled out in severe pain. It was a traumatic experience. I could feel the electro at some points but it wasn’t super bad, actually quite manageable. But electro guy said I shouldn’t feel it at all. At the end of it, he promised the next time would be MUCH better and we planned for me to come in 30-40 minutes early for the goop to work longer and apply it all over.
So next visit comes and I get smeared with goop and Saran and wait… different, more experience nurse comes and I’m grateful thinking this will be so much nicer. WRONG! All but 2 shots were felt with extreme pain. She said it was probably because I didn’t shave first so the goop didn’t sit flat on skin, but I was told not to the last time. And I was pretty saturated and flattened with Saran so I’m not thinking that was the case. So the needles were actually worse this visit. And I could feel almost every single needle from the electro! It was SO SO PAINFUL! Made me wonder why I was paying $90/hr extra for this nurse to torture me and make the experience worse instead of better.
Is it what they are using??
I had some response to it the first time. And I was relaxed beforehand. And I don’t have issues at the dentist so I don’t think I have that genetic condition.
I just want to be able to finish it.
Any help?

Hi pained,

Is it electrolysis you are having? You say that the nurse had to be reminded to change needle. If you are having the same area like the pubic area all hair tends to be the same size so shouldn’t need constant changing, they are exception towards the leg where hair maybe finer. Then you say she went to freeze area not preglooped and u said it was agony, was it the freezing or electrolysis that was agony? what method of electrolysis for example, Thermolysis, blend, galvanic? With electrolysis a good skilled therapist will be able to slide the probe(needle) into the follicle without any discomfort it should be the heat of the current that you feel. I’m from the UK and had to Google what saran was!! 🙊 so forgive me if the terminology u are using seems perfectly fine to my American colleagues but ur posts need clarification.
Hopefully one of the pros will be along, I only have 6years behind me so the others my be able to decipher ur post lol

Let me see if I’m interpreting this correctly…

You’re getting electrolysis in the Brazilian area.
You’re having a nurse inject a local anesthetic to help numb the area
They are applying a topical anesthetic to numb the area prior to injection

The vast majority of people getting work done in this area do not use a local injection at all (and I don’t think 95% of electrolysis clinics even have it as an option). 75% of my clients will apply topical EMLA applied 30 minutes to 2 hours prior to their visit and then cover it plastic wrap to keep it in place and allow it to penetrate deeper (and the other 25% don’t use any anesthetic at all).

Not shaving prior to the application of the topical anesthetic will not affect the application of the topical. In fact, shaving the hair will interfere with the process of actually getting quality electrolysis done.

I see! Yeh I agree emancipated some of my clients use emla cream and clingfilm covering the area before treatment. The majority don’t use anything. I think you should just try the electrolysis with the emla cream but keep the cream on for 1.5hour to 2hour and wrap in cling film.

Save yourself some money that could get you possibly a couple of treatments.
