lightning bolt pains. Normal?

So my very first visit with the electrolosis was last week. Every time she used the current I would get lightning bolt pains shooting through my body. Nerves I guess, but in my hands down my leg, even in my head or ear. Is this normal. I can tolerate it if it was just the burning sensation but the nerve pains I guess I didn’t expect. Is this normal. I spoke to another friend who had it done and she never experienced this so was hoping to get some other insight here.

is she doing blend or thermolysis?

What area were you treating and did the feeling of jolts happen sporadically or throughout the treatment? It is not normal to experience what you describe throughout the treatment.

When I was getting my feet cleared there is a spot in the ankle where the Peroneal nerves branch out and any time that spot would be cleared, I felt the full body jolt and involuntary reflex where my foot would kick up, almost hitting the electrologist in the face. Every time we had to clear that area I was scared of same jolts. That would happen when Thermolysis would be used in the area but less so with blend. I’m not sure why.

I am doing thermolysis and having work done on my chin and under chin. The jolts happened probably 75% of the time and I also had the jolts where my feet would jump or u would have to clench my fists because it would travel down my arms. I can tolerate the pain and burn but feeling the electric shock through my body was the worst part. Triggered my anxiety for sure.

Wondering if this is normal. Anyone lose experience this and is there a way to stop it from happening?

doesnt sound normal to me. Can you try out a different electrologist?

So do you think it’s something she is doing or just the way my body reacts to it. I didn’t think or feel like she was doing something wrong but idk.

I’m of the opinion there could be something wrong with te current being discharged by the machine. I cant really tell from you description what exactly is going on but caution is warranted. The description of these “twitches” sounds similar to what a tens unit does?

I have never used a tens unit but basically it just feels like it is hitting nerves every time and sending the electric shocks through my nerves to other parts of my body.

I agree with the suggestion that you try others and see if you have the same experience. If you do, then figure out what you need to do to relax.

Yeah I plan on it. If it happens again I know it’s something wrong w me.

elrios can you tell me if during the thermolysis treatment you held an indifferent electrode in your hand? Was the electrologist working with a pedal, or on automatic?

The idea behind trying a different electrologist is to change out the equipment and the practitioners skill both. If you continue to feel the same issue with someone else then you can look at perhaps blend as fenix suggests ( though that is certainly not pain free either)

I’ve seen maloperating equipment conduct dc current with or without automatic function used ( and in one case the only solution was to replace the machine).

So do try another electrologist, see if the issue is the same. If it is, try blend and see if that’s better. Blend can be a little more tedious but it works just fine if that gives you a favourable treatment experience or skin reaction.

You could also try using topical anesthetics and see if that makes a difference.
