Lighting that makes you look better

Ok, not an ‘emotional’ post.
But might help some cope better in certain ways…

Has anyone else notice how the lighting around you affect the way your problem areas look?
For example, i dont like the hair on my arms, yet when the sun is going down of an evening and you get that orangey light, my arms look great. It gives the illusion of bronze golden hair. Therefore making me much more comfortable.

On the other hand - the lighting in offices and shops, i despise.

I want to find some good lighting for my bedroom, so i can have one little saftey net i can feel good in.

Other than buying hundereds of different light bulbs, is there anyway i can determine what light is best.?

Does anyone have opinions on this… Or am i just talking crap.?

I know you can get bulbs with a pink/peach/warm ‘glow’ and they should be fairly easy to find, especially at any hardware or big box store. Lighting has A HUGE affect on us in MANY ways, as does any of our surroundings, including color - hello color psychology/ feng shui / space planning etc.

Also, I have used bleach (the ones you get at the market or drug store for body/facial hair) for many many years until I started this electrolysis adventure. I noticed that it makes the hairs seem ‘finer’ or ‘thinner’ where they are bleached - I guess from the damage bleaching does to the strand of hair - I mean after the hair has left the surface of the skin, the bleached part will appear thinner than the root and unbleached section - it obviously doesn’t grow out thinner or anything. Also, if you don’t leave it on long enough to completely bleach the hair blonde, it will appear orangish/reddish, just like if you didn’t lighten brown or dark scalp hair enough. If that makes sense… Maybe if you can try bleaching or partial bleaching, it will give you the golden bronze look? And then if you find the bulbs, you should be ok in those 2 areas?

I would defiantly at least call around to a few hardware/lighting stores - I know you’ll find it. If it turns out you hate the light emitted, most places probably will let you return or exchange the bulbs. I would just avoid fluorescent, compact fluorescent, halogen and natural / pure light (they are a sort of blue tinted clean light) bulbs. The ones you want are more of a candle lit tone. I think if you mention that along with the effect of ‘sunset’, peach/pink / warm toned light, they should be able to get the right bulb for you.

great idea. thanks.

its strange, but i find the light emmited by the TV when its the only light source, is quite flattering to myself…

I wonder what ‘type’ of light that is…

Hi Morrissey - yeah, it’s interesting how lighting and it’s color and ‘temperature’ (as well as color itself and all other aspects of our surroundings) can really affect us. And by color, I even mean hair / body hair color! I know if mine was all blonde or pale I probably wouldn’t really care if I had it or not, regardless of where it is or the quantity. Funny huh? I always thought light body hair actually looks nice or even ‘sexy’. Oh well. Even so, to each their own.

Side note - I knew this girl who was maybe of Persian descent and so she had a beautiful darker smooth skin, and even though she had dark body hair, I thought she was beautiful even with it, I mean it was all part of this beautiful physical package, but she was extremely self conscious and hated it, wouldn’t wear sleeveless shirts etc. Yet this other man we worked with found her so beautiful and even liked that about her. I also used to work with this other woman, also sexy as hell, pale skin, dark hair. she even had a little on her stomach and even that she made sexy. I have no idea how she felt about it. But me - nope, super self conscious also. what ever. I learned to deal with it and not focus too much, but now that i started electro - even though its just on one of the areas - wow, I can’t believe how much better I feel. I don’t even think I realized how much it affected me. So I totally get it. And on me, blonde / light was definitely a better combo. as i said, if it were permanent, I probably wouldn’t care. But we have TECHNOLOGY now and it’s great.

So back to lighting. I wish I knew more about it, but the lights are definitely a pinkish looking bulb. Here in the US many bulbs are ‘soft white’. Most typical lighting (bulbs) are seeming very yellow or ‘dirty’ to me and actually seem to make my eyes tired. I usually think of fluorescent lighting as ‘unhealthy’ and flickering greenish(?) light - also basically hard to see under. I prefer like the look of halogen bulbs or the ‘clean’ white light. Here we can buy bulbs called ‘reveal’ that are almost purple tinted bulbs that remove yellow from the light . I really like those, but I don’t think that is what you were looking for.

Do you know any photographers or lighting guys? They could probably tell you also more about light and it’s aspects or even help you figure out how to ‘gel’ or paint the bulbs (like they do for a photo shoot/ tv/film). There are so many color temperature and types, tungstun, halogen, etc, etc… I don’t watch a lot of tv so I am trying to think of what that light would be? It always seems ‘blue’ to me also? Also if it is the only light source - its probably ‘low light’ and ‘flickering’ and ‘cool’ toned right? so then I’d think maybe a low watt reveal bulb on a dimmer light be an option?

That makes me think of this - what is your lighting fixture like and where is the light directed? If its an uplight and bounces off your ceiling, maybe you could tint the ceiling with a bit of red/blush/magenta (or whatever sunset color you liked) to slightly off set the color from a typical pure ceiling white, and then do a slight satin/very slight gloss sheen and the reflected light would have the color tone you are going for. When I speak of tinting the ceiling - I mean almost indescernable, just so that the tone is picked up and affects the quality of light - not the color of the room - if that makes sense… Your other task lights and mood lighting could be set on dimmers and the shades on the mood lighting sources could also be of a tint to disperse light in the tone you prefer.

ok well, that was fun writing you - hopefully you’ll figure out where to get the bulbs! I still think it will be pretty easy and maybe get 2 choices - the pink one (maybe tell them you want to set a romantic mood and have a warm candle lit glow? but do not get the flickering candelabra lights, thats not what I am talking about) and the reveal (bluer / purpler) bulbs - then you can see which you prefer and not get 50 billion bulbs like you mentioned first time around. Ask an art/photo/motion picture person about lighting too (if you know them), get the bleach and your ready to go!

Cheers!
