LHR on Male Beard - opinions on beard line

Hi all,

Several years ago I had LHR on my front of neck and had a clearly defined lower edge to my beard created.

The goal was to reduce ingrowns and razor-rash on my neck. A side-effect was the a clearly-defined “beard line” where my beard suddenly stopped and clear skin began.

At first I didn’t mind, but it really doesn’t look natural at all.

The time has come where I need to do this procedure again due to regrowth on my neck. My question is for any practitioners out there, or men who have had the procedure done - do you tend to leave a hard beardline, or do you stagger the treatment along the beardline to try to create a natural transition of thinning hair from the beard to the clear neck?

I’m thinking of having each treatment move up a couple of millimeters towards the jawbone to so that over a course of several treatments a progressive thinning should hopefully create a transitional area between the full beard hair and the clear neck skin. Does anybody have experience with this, and any success or failure stories?

Thanks

I would strongly recommend for you to go with electrolysis on this. Laser cannot create a natural looking line for you simply because the handpiece is too big. You would be much better off going with electrolysis. Electrologists are experienced with shaping beards (as opposed to most laser techs who have zero training or experience in that). Bring in some pictures of beard lines that you like and have the electrologist recreate it to the best of their ability.

I know you expressed disinterest in electrolysis in your other thread, but it’s really the best solution to your issue. I don’t think you’ll be satisfied doing what you’re planning on doing now with laser. Also, I’m not sure you realize that there are differences between various electrologists and electrolysis machines. On average, they will remove 5-10 hairs per minute. So it won’t be that slow on your beard and you’ll get the result you want in the end, which is important. Plus, you can change things up as you go if you’re unhappy unlike with laser where it will be a done deal once the hair is gone. No turning back.

I don’t think I expressed myself clearly on this one.

On my previous front-of-neck (“beardline”) laser treatment - they gave me a perfect line across my neck as a beardline. I thought that this was what I wanted.

But over time, I realised how completely unnatural this looks.

Now I’m at a point of re-growth where I need to do front-of-neck again.

I’m thinking that if I have another “perfect line” done across my neck - I could have it done maybe a 1/4 inch above the last one. That way after regrowth I should have a 1/4 inch of beard which is less dense than my regular beard, but not cleared like my neck.

I figure if I do that a few times, it will look like more of a natural blend from beard to clear-neck.

The place that I go to now seems pretty good at shaping beards with the laser - and my last place was too. I haven’t had it done here yet, but they showed how they use white tissue sheets to create beard lines.

Just wondering for those who have had your beard done, or practicioners who do men’s beards - do you normally have a clearly defined beard line, or do you blend in a more natural looking transitional area of beard hair? And if you blend it, what technique do you use?

Thanks

There haven’t been a lot of posts on this, unfortunately. Most clinics stay away from doing this because it’s very difficult to do well.
