LHR for me or is electrolysis better option? (Pics

I scheduled some consultations with 4 places that perform LHR, all of which use GentleLase. I’m not sure what my skin type is, but I’d guess its between type II & III? I have thick, fine hair on my back, chest, stomach, and legs. The hair is dark brown/black, and most of the roots are dark black, a large portion of my hair has multiple shafts coming from a single follicle. I’ve had my upper body waxed twice in the past, which I read may hinder LHR. I posted pics of the areas I’m looking to have treated.

Am I a good candidate for LHR or am I wasting my time since my hair is fine?

Your pictures are not coming through. You can try photobucket.com

Fine hair, even if it is dark, makes LASER hair reduction more of a gamble. Waxing only matters if it is done while you are doing LASER. The hair needs to be present so the energy can focus on heating up the pigment. If you strip the hair away, then there is no pigment for the LASER to see.

Your skin type needs to be judged by the person using the LASER, Type’s I and II are good for a GentleLase and I do believe that Type III can be included as well. Skill reigns.

Try those pictures again. Okay?? One of the laser experts will have to go futher with your question.

Without seeing the pics you sound like you would be. As I’m sure you know the lighter the skin the better, so type 1-3 is definitely the most responsive, but all skin types can be treated. Dark coarse hair is the best, and it sounds like you have that. Remember too when people say dark coarse hair, obviously the thicker and darker the better but it doens’t mean it has to be dark and coarse like pubic hair or something, it just means it can’t be gray, or blonde or red or super fine like peach fuzz. I did my forearms and was looking at them and thought I’d only get a reduction since some of the hair I’d call dark and coarse but the rest was more dark but not super coarse, and it got all of it, all that’s come back is the fine peach fuzz hairs which I prefer since it looks more natural. You can only see them if you look up close.

GentleLASE is best on type 1-3 any higher is pushing it since it’s powerful and you don’t want it to burn you. I’m a higher type 3 and I do GentleLASE have no issues at all. Do a test patch and see how much hair you lose honestly.

Waxing is fine it’s only bad for LHR if you’ve done it recently, since there needs to be hair there for the laser to target. If you’ve waxed recently, then there’s no roots growing for the laser to hit so it’s a waste. Make sure it’s been at least a couple months since you last waxed and you’re fine.

Ok. I reposted the pictures at photobucket as you suggested.

THough the pictures are blurry, it appears that the chest stomach and leg areas might be responsive to LASER hair reduction. These areas are not at risk for laser hair stimulation, so it may be worth trying. The back hairs look too fine and too light to me and additionally, you are gambling with inducing more hair to grow, as this is a famous area for this side effect to occur in some? many?people. If LASER can reduce at least 50% of the hair, then a skilled, modern electrologist can mop up the rest of the hairs that bother you.

Does whether the hair being fine or coarse only matter because it corresponds to the size of the follicle? In my case, the follicles appear to be 3-4 times as wide as a single hair. I can actually see most of the hair roots through my skin and it gives the skin a blueish tint.

Also how long will electrolysis take to clear my back from top to bottom?

For the electrolysis part of your question, time to completion depends on several variables such as:

Speed of the electrologist, speed in turn is related to what epilator and mode of electrolysis is used, how often and how long you are willing to go in and lay on the table in order to reach a full clearance, how well you tolerate the sensation, how well you budgeted for the several months it will take you to get full clearance. For large areas with a lot of hair, you need a strong commitment to stay on an aggressive schedule according to YOUR particular hair removal condition. Time varies with how much hair you have, in other words. For areas like you have, you need to go with a MODERNLY equipped electrologist who can go fast. That means, MicroFlash or better yet, PicoFlash thermolysis, with the automatic timer set well below one second. Any electrologist already doing this knows what I’m talking about. Appointments should be 2 hours or more in the beginning.

This is not an easy task for either party, but IT WORKS and you will have permanent hair removal. Check out poster ‘bryce’ and read his thread.

One of my clients who had his back hair removed from upper arms, shoulder, neckline to beltline received his first, full clearance in 7 months. He came to me for two hours a weeks. After that, we maintained the whole back, shoulders and upper arm areas for another 7 months. Cost was around $4,500. You can negotiate for buying packages to get a price break.

So this is not cheap or easy, but it does work as long as the electrologist has the right set up and stamina.

Not sure I understand your first question about the size of the follicle? The main thing to know is that the coarser, denser and darker the hair (and lighter the skin), the better response one gets when a good laser is used by a skilled laser specialist.

I would recommend getting the hair lasered first and then get the remaining hair permanently removed with electrolysis

In my opinion, it’s never worth the gamble of induced growth and lack of results for that kind of money. Put the money you want to spend on treating fine hair towards electrolysis from the start and treat only coarse dense hair with laser.
