LHR completely painless - is it still effective?

Hello all!

I purchased a 6 session package (not a Groupon type deal) for my underarms to be treated by the Candela GentleLASE. I completed my first session 2 days ago, however, I have some concerns. The treatment did not hurt AT ALL… it was completely painless. I read about other reviews saying it feels like a rubber band snap or hot/cool air. I only felt a bit of cool hair and a little vibration during every “zap”. There was no “singing” smell or anything like that. My underarms were not red or sore to any degree after the treatment.
Does that mean that my treatment was not effective?

Unfortunately, I did not see the settings on the machine that day. And I know that it is too early to see some shedding, however, I would just like to ask if it’s abnormal to not feel any pain at all during the procedure.

Thanks so much!

In my experience, some places hurt worse than others. The same settings are used for my arm pits as my chest. My chest feels likes she is dragging a hot poker across my skin, barely tolerable, and yet my arm pits don’t hurt much at all.
I would definitely find out your settings though.

My underarms and brazillian hurt about the same but I saw no shedding on my underarms after my first treatment. I’ve only ever had a spot test using a candela model and I didn’t think it was particularly painful, perhaps it’s just the model?

I just had my bikini line done and couldnt believe it didnt hurt either. It was the first time I had it done so I cant tell yet whether its working or not. The operator did say she was getting good readings off the machine thought. Guess time will tell. My friend however had underarms done recently (on the same machine as I used) and said it was quite painful. I guess peoples pain tolerance levels are all different too.

There is no such thing as painless laser hair removal (permanent).
You are using a high energy to KILL hair follicles in your body… Your body doesn’t like that and transmits a sensation to your brain which is usually interpreted as pain.

If you do not feel anything, then you are not getting anything… Even with topical anesthetic.

Well said, LaserSurgeon! Can’t be emphasized enough.

Same goes for electrolysis. The client must feel something or nothing is happening.

Famous words of the profession : “A painless treatment is a worthless treatment”.
