LHR Candidate? *Pics Included*

Would appreciate some opinions on whether or not these areas seem like good candidates. I think the chest and beard are a go for sure, just wondering about arms, legs, pits and back. I included one of my upper arm/shoulder, but I think it’ll need electrolysis. Thanks, J

Your beard, lower arms, stomach, chest, and underarms are good candidates for laser.

Your back has two larges patches on the sides that are worth treating. The rest needs electrolysis.

Your upper legs have relatively sparse and finer hair. It’s treatable, but I’d expect average results here…probably a reduction in coarseness and density in about 3 treatments before laser won’t be effective anymore.

Your shoulders definitely need electrolysis only.

The beard has very coarse dense growth. You definitely need a numbing cream for that. You should also consider a Yag laser there as it penetrates deeper and thus works best on the chin and upper lip areas. It’s also extremely important to find someone very experienced with beards who will overlap well and won’t miss areas because that could cause patchy results.

I believe you can get some of these costs covered by the army…for example the face.

Thanks. I had the beard fully cleared once with electrolysis, but, I would like to see if I can get it lasered a few times, then finish with electrolysis. I’ll still use electrolysis on arms above the elbow, shoulders, eyebrows, neckline, and most likely just do full back with electro.
I’ve contacted both Romeo and Juliet in NY and Smooth Solutions in TX. I just have to decide if NY is gonna be worth the airfare and cost differences. Chris there has the top lasers and is very helpful. SS in TX is way closer and they do have 2 great lasers. I think I will get a test patch or 3 done in TX in January. J

Your lower arms are great for laser as well. I would do that area with laser too. And i’d hit those spots on your back with it since you’ll be at the office anyway.

There are some posts here from people in Louisiana who found good places with GentleLASE machines and who used good high settings. I’ll try to look for it. I don’t think a trip to NY is necessary unless you want to go anyway of course.

Here’s Lani’s thread with photos on male beard treatments. He was in New Orleans and stopped treatments for a year, and then didn’t finish them, so the results are not indicative of what they can be with the correct treatment schedule: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/51593/1.html

I checked those out. Thanks for your time. I don’t mind driving to Houston really. It’s not so far. I already fly to Buffalo to see James. I’m trying to be as smooth as possible throughout the whole process. I just hope I have honest techs.

If you’re willing to travel, I’d go to the Smooth Solutions location where the owner is (Dr Steven Finder). I believe he’s in San Antonio, but call and ask. Search for posts by SSLHR here. He’s very knowledgeable and used to contribute here when he had time.

SS was really my only choice in the South. I plan to get a consult in January. I guess the test patches will need 3 weeks before I can get a full clearance? J

If you go to Dr Steven Finder directly, i.e. to his San Antonio office, I don’t think you need a test patch. He is very knowledgeable.

I think I’ll make that trip before NY. I still go to James tho for the rest.

What area is James treating?

Well, on my leave in June I had a full beard removal done. Was insanely painful and took the expected 30 hours. I paid ahead for 100 hours. But, my face isn’t even my main concern, though I do want it clear. My chest and back and arms top face any day.
Due to the cost of having them all done by electrolysis, I decided to try to thin with laser and then just make James’ table my home away from home :>)
I’m hoping maybe 6 treatments in all my places then switching over to electrolysis. I also bought a decent blend machine and all the books so I can do some myself. Probably fingers, feet, upper legs and some in the pubic area.
The first priority is to get the hair gone from places like the back and shoulders where no one wants hair I’m sure. I think my chest will respond well since it hasnt seen sun in years and the hair is very dark and wiry.
I have pics of the electrolysis and will be making a journal when I get time. I have to call and find out exactly where the Doc for SS works. San Antonio will be an 8hr drive, but I’ll suck that up no sweat. Thanks for your responses LaGirl,

Oh, I didn’t even say where James will be working while I’m trying laser. I will still go to him for most of my back, my shoulders/upper arms, eyebrows, and maybe glutes since the hairs are black, but not course.

J

I think you will be very happy with the reduction you’ll get from LHR and even the hairless periods in between. Most of your hair is great for LHR.

Maybe you can consider flying. 8-hr drive roundtrip costs quite a bit in gas. I know you can get flights for around $50 each way depending on dates. Compare rates on Southwest and Kayak and do a flexible search fare on Kayak and Orbitz.

I would definitely call Dr Finder and talk to him about your situation on the phone and mention that you found out about him on this forum.

Thanks, Ill do that. I looked into flights and they were around $215 and I would have to rent a car. But, I still may do that. J

Hey, templje! How are you doing?!

If you see Steve Finder tell him hello. He has posted here in the past and I really respect his information about LASER HAIR REDUCTION. He was very patient, careful and honest with his explanations. I miss his input here, but it takes a lot of time to post, so I understand why he is not a regular anymore.

I agree with LAgirl, with the amount of hair you have, try to knock out the bulk of the hair with LASER and refine later with electrolysis if you think you need to go further. You certainly look like a good candidate for a laser plan.

Welcome home!

Dee

There seems to be a direct bus from the San Antonio airport to the Smooth Solutions location on Stone Oak Parkway. I just used Google Maps to map the public transportation route.

I travel quite a bit, so feel free to ask if you need help planning this.

I’ve searched and the best prices seem to be about $250 round trip. That may still be better than driving, considering time and wear and tear.
After speaking with James, I may still finish face with electrolysis and of course the shoulders and back. Face may just get to around 85% or whatever I’m at around the 100 hr mark.
My biggest concern is running out of funds and still having a hairy torso/back/shoulders.
I’m looking foward to seeing what LHR will do for chest/pits/arms.
I have the Hinkle U3 epilator and will most likely work on myself a little too. My sister may help if she has the dedication. Thanks, J
Good to “see” you DEE

What’s the airport closest to you?

Jackson Mississippi is only an hour and a half away.

This is a good site to use to find the cheapest dates to go. It looks like in November, the cheapest flight is $247 right now.
