Letting too much time pass between sessions

Around the year 2001, my mom was nice enough to give me $50 every two weeks for electrolysis, but then changed her mind after about 3 sessions. I had it done on my navel. This particular electrologist told me that if I miss a session, it is like starting over from the beginning, since the hairs grow in cycles, so it is important not to miss a cycle. In other words, you have to catch all the cycles. If you miss even one cycle, you’ll have to do another 7-10 sessions before you achieve permanent hair growth. They performed the blend on me.

Then, several years later, I spotted an ad at a trade show for a free 30-minute electrolysis session, so I got it done at a different company who used thermolysis. I got it on my breasts. The electrologst told me that 10% of the hairs would be killed PERMANENTLY.

So, if they really were killed PERMANENTLY, then doesn’t that mean it wouldn’t be like “starting from the beginning”? Wouldn’t I only need another 6-9 sessions, instead of 7-10 sessions? (the first electrologist told me that it takes about 7-10 clearances before you achieve permanent clearance.

Which electrologist is correct?

Everything your were “told” is idiotic nonsense. How can there STILL be so much misinformation “out there” being perpetrated by supposed “professionals in the trade?”

We all have our explanations…

Depending on the strategy, I have found that anywhere from 8-15 clearings of the same area, over a period of 9-18 months gives people the gift of permanent hair removal. If an area is untouched by any temporary hair removal method for 4-6 months, a clearance can be done every 3-4 months on a body area , over 9-18 months time, using ANY modality of electrolysis, as long as the hair is “punched” with enough energy each and every time.

Just go get it started and make sure you get a clearance and that the hair slides out with no resistance. You do not want to feel a tweezing sensation.

Neither is correct, and it boggles the mind that you were told this. A properly treated hair is killed the first time and will never come back. If you clear an area completely you WILL see additional hair growth down the road, but it’s not the same hairs coming back but other hairs that were dormant at the time of the first treatment. Having said that, no “cycle” will ever cause killed hairs to return or mean you need an additional 10 treatments or whatever. Let’s say you completely clear your abdomen 4 times and end up with only 20% of the hair you started with. Even if you wait 5 years (assuming you don’t have hormone problems causing new growth) you will still only need to remove that 20% remaining hair. You will not have to start all over again.

As to the second, run away from an electrologist that says you can only get a 10% kill rate. Mine has probably a 90% rate or more, and after a few clearings of an area I always see a very visible reduction. Neither of these people sounds like somebody you should be going to.

Dee,

Taking into account your advise, it’s much better to do not touch the area that will be treated with electrolysis for 3-4 months previously to the first clearance?

I’m going to do my arms in February and I waxed them at the end of November, so, do you recommend not touched anymore till the first session

By the way, If Im not able to touch it, could I use a product to clear out my arms (blonde vellus)

thanks a lot for your guidance

Do not wax or do anything else to them if you are planning electrolysis.

Indeed.

By the way, If Im not able to touch it, could I use a product to clear out my arms (blonde vellus)

You must decide wether to have the hairs being effectively removed permanently or not. It is always ok if You keep the hairs short with a hair cutter or a pair of scissors - to a few mm. Background: for best effectivity we need to see really all hairs, notably also the telogens. And those grow very slowly and disappear on anything including shaving.

I agree with Beate!

thanks a lot for your answers!! I won’t touch my hair until I get my first session!

Just one more question that would help me a lot to understand, My Electrologist uses Thermolysis, do you thing is good for my arms? I have dark vellus over there but I’ve been reading that Thermolysis in comparison with Electrolysis is not that effective?? Do you consider that I could start with Thermolysis and then move myself to electrolysis??

Thanks a lot and I really appreciate your wisdom!!!

Effectiveness is entirely a matter of the skills of the electrologist. A hair follicle killed by heat is just as dead as a hair follicle killed by heat plus a bit of lye. And dead is dead; there is no “half death”.

Ok can someone clear something up for me? How much time is too much bw sessions? My Electrologist is suggesting 6-8 weeks between sessions! Won’t all my hair be in the wrong(dormant) growth phase by then? Or does the growth phase not matter? I’m confused and hope to get permanent results.

Steph gold. I’m sorry but it seems you didn’t read the answer that professionals gave you on this forum. I strongly Invite you to make a research through the fonction research of hairtell or with the help of google if you want answer. Since more than 10 years professionals and customers share they experiences. You have A LOT of informations that are avaible. Please respect the time of both electrologist and customers who posts on this forum.

If someone ask IN THE SAME topic. " i were told by a practionner that if I miss a cycle I will have to start the process again from the beginning." And Michael and others answer that this statements is idiotics no sens! You can apply this answers to your questions as well.

Last I checked this is a public forum where we are free to post our questions and professionals are free to ignore what they want. I got my answer but felt your statement was rude and unnecessary.

If you found my comment disrespectful, I apologize.

My understanding from the professional electrologists on this forum is that hair can be successfully treated by a skilled electrologist at any stage of of its growth with the exception, I suppose, of hairs that have already completely shed from the follicle.

As I understand it, the Clear & Wait strategy utilised by some of the electrologists here requires that clients wait several months between treatments provided that the hair is not permanently or temporarily removed (including shaving) during this time. I imagine trimming with scissors or a beard trimmer would be acceptable as long as the hair is still clearly visible to the electrologist at least under magnification.

If you’re unable to leave the hair alone during that time, it might be wise to reduce the period between treatments. You would have to raise that concern with your specific electrologist.

I’m currently receiving electrolysis treatments, so I understand your anxiety, but as long as your electrologist is skilled and is removing the hairs without resistance, the result is permanent.

Scurvy, you are right in many points but when you say “as long as your electrologist is skilled and is removing the hairs without resistance, the result is permanent .” This is not totally exact.

Let me explain. When a hair is removed without resistance, this is a good indication but this doesn’t always mean the hair has been permanently destroyed. there is good chances the hair that slide out without any resistance is killed forever.

thanks for the clarification, and I have a second thought. I treat my face with electrolysis but not with that strategy “Clear and wait”. At the first or second clearance, in order to know if the treatment is working well or not, is normal that the inicial thick hair at the second or third clearance appears thinner and weaker? What could be the signs after that let me know that the treatment is going well (I know about the not plucking sensation during the treatment)

thanks for your guidance!

Thank you for asking this interesting question.

If you don’t see the initials big blacks hair after the second or the third clearance this can be a good Indication…but a not very good one too!

This could be a sign of a good treatment if the black hairs you are talking about are killed and WHAT YOU SEE after 2 or 3 clearances are hairs you didn’t notice previously because they were “hide” by the big ones or they were not present at the time of your first clearance and appears with the hair cycle weeks/months after.

This can also be a sign of a bad thing if this is the sames hairs that are not killing the first time the needle of your electrologist hit them! Treating the same hair 3 or 4 time in order to kill it is the definition of improper electrolysis practice.

I suggest you to try to notice if you have “instant regrowth” or “true regrowth” (those 2 terms have the same definition.) in another topics, josefa show an exemple of true regrowth. Withing weeks, if you see hair growing with a shaved appearance that in the treated spot, this is the indication the electrologist didn’t kill effectively the hair.

Electrolysis is a relatively long process. If you treat a hair let’s say 3 times, it will take 3 times longer than the proper electrolysis process. 3 time the amount of money also …

Awesome! Thank. You

Thanks Roselake21

It’s difficult to judge an electrologist’s work in the first clearance even in the second one. So I have to “trust” in her till I notice some improvement. I’m going to start my treatment with a Certified Electrologist, and when I talk to her about the treatment she said after the first clearance one month later we have to work in the second one, less time, and then a Third one should be necessary in three months because we have to wait that the dormant hair pops up. She works with Apillus Xcell and Instantron ss-99 in thermolysis mode. I have to take the risk and see what happen at least in two clearances. The thing is risk is about money. I will let you know my process when get started.
