I am planning on receiving laser hair removal pretty much over my entire body, from shoulders to feet, i know that sounds a bit extreme but after saving up im ready to take the plunge lol.
So i was just wondering if all areas will be treated in one session or if i’d have to do it in sections at different times ??
And just roughly how long will it take for the entire course of treatments to be completed overall ??
This is probably not a good way to go since laser only works on dark coarse hair. I doubt you have that on every inch of your body. So that’s the first thing you need to address. Let us know what parts of your body actually have dark coarse pretty dense hair.
You can have a treatment done in one day, but it depends on clinic availability and your tolerance for pain since effective treatments hurt. Most people split it up in two days if the treatment takes over 2 hours overall.
Please read the FAQs on this forum FIRST before jumping into this, so that you have correct expectations. Laser is not a magic solution.
Depending on the area and your expectations more than 1 treatment per area is needed. Having noted that typical session length for each treatment are approximately,
full arms - 45 minutes
full legs - 90 minutes
chest&abs - 60 minutes
back - 60 minutes
This includes everything like preparation for the zapping, and etc., not just the zapping.
Laser doesn’t work well for fine hair and you should be concerned about patchy regrowth for coarse areas.
Patchy growth is not an issue on almost any area with proper treatment. It’s an issue on male beards. Other than that, we almost never get complaints even on the forums regarding patchiness and people mostly come here to complain.
First, I want to make it clear that my point is that patchiness is an issue for those who wants to thin out, not for those who wants complete removal. And males don’t usually want complete removal.
I wonder what proper treatment is. In my book ‘proper treatment’ is hard to achieve in today’s average human-operated-treatments. If we were having fully machine controlled laser sessions, then I would be more relieved.
Anyway, here is some posts dating back to year ago who complained about patchiness on this forum. I’ve just run a search with the keyword “patchy”, I am sure we can find more posts trying different keywords.
And, I’d like someone to find posts of those who had uniform reduction, to see if people above are just the minority.
Proper treatments are those that cover the entire area that is treated carefully and then touched up 2-3 weeks later on any areas that haven’t shed.
Also, normal hair growth on large areas is almost always somewhat patchy naturally. People just don’t pay as much attention to it. I’m sure you’ve seen lots of men with chest hair that is in all kinds of shapes and didn’t think twice about it. But after laser, you may consider anything that’s not 100% in line patchy.
Im really keen on having the hair on my arms, back and stomach removed. Its dark hair and my skin is extremely pale so i thought i would be a good candidate. However the hair on my stomach isnt really coarse, i have a trail going up to my belly button which is thicker but otherwise its quite fine however still noticeable especially against my pale skin. Would laser still be effective on this ??
And i have been toying with the idea of getting my legs done as well as i have finally saved up…which took forever lol…but im not so sure about that. However i do have to shave them every day as the hair is quite thick and dark and grows back very quickly !! would this be a good idea on my legs then or not ??
The hair on your stomach is not coarse enough except maybe for the part in the middle. I had the same situation, had 3 laser treatments there and then had to switch to electrolysis to finish. Laser only works on dark COARSE (like bikini and underarms) hair. You don’t mention what type you have on arms (and what part of arms) and back. But if it’s not like the hair on your bikini and underarms, you’ll need electrolysis instead. In fact, laser can actually stimulate finer hair to become more coarse. So treating fine hair with laser is not advised.
The hair on your legs sounds dark and coarse. So that hair will get good results with laser.
Please read the FAQs at the link below. You need the right type of laser and an experienced clinic to get results. And not every clinic can offer you that. Research is very important.
Also, you only need treatments once every 2-3 months. So you can save up while you’re getting treatments too. You don’t need to pay a lump sum up front. We actually recommend to pay per treatment so you can assess the clinic and leave if you’re not happy with results.
oh ok thanx for the advice lagirl. I also have hair on my upper lip which i have been shaving every morning for about 2 years now… so im also eager to get rid of that but im more wary as its on my face and im scared about possible scarring.
Would it be better to use elctrolysis on this area or laser ??
The hair there isn’t very coarse but one friend told me that because of the shaving it will be thicker when it grows back anyway so laser could be effective…does that have any truth to it??
Shaving does nothing to the structure of the hair. It doesn’t make it any thicker. That’s an old-wives’ tale.
For your upper lip, you need electrolysis. It’s a small area where precision is necessary and you don’t want to risk induced growth there, which is most common on a woman’s face. I had this area done with electrolysis too. It’s actually very cheap since it’s a small area. I think I had about 8-10 ten-min treatments over the course of a year, so it cost me less than $300 total.
You have to realize that laser works, but only on the right type of hair. For other situations, you need electrolysis. That’s why I had both laser and electrolysis depending on the area. Laser worked great on my underarms, bikini and legs. And electrolysis was great on the stomch, eyebrows, upper lip and nipple area. You can read my story at the link below.
Ok then thank u.
If u wouldn’t mind, im just curious how long it took u to clear ur stomach area using ur mixture of laser and electolysis…
Im so desperate to fix this area as its the place that the hair bothers me the most…
I just feel like a freak sumtimes. This forum has been really informative and helpful thanx.

No matter which method you choose, it will take you about 1-1.5 yrs to complete treatments because the hair grows in cycles. Of course, as you go, you have less and less hair to worry about.
Btw, you can bleach meanwhile. That’s what I did before getting laser and electrolysis.
