Length of Hair for Electrolysis?

(27/Male/Skin-5/did 6 Yag lhr on beard Area)

I have some fine hairs on my Nose/Ear/Cheek! I am thinking about getting electrolysis on that area. Just wondering, what should be the minimum length of hairs for effective electrolysis? Mine are really small… You can feel them when you move your finger on them, but you can’t hold them!

Next Question: I went to this place for a test patch, and she doesn’t even know what method she uses. She is experienced though and did good job. Should I keep going there? Was my question format confusing??

Me: So, what kind of electrolysis technique do you use?
She: What do you mean - technique. Its called ‘Electrolysis’
Me: huh!

Next Question: Does the treated-hairs grow back – ‘fine and lighter’? Or they don’t grow back at all? How many treatments should I be expecting after full clearance?

Thanks Everyone!

Ask her if it’s galvanic, blend, thermolysis, or flash thermolysis. If she wasn’t aware you knew of the different modalities, she may have thought you meant something else by your question.

The hairs need to be long enough to see their direction (so she can tell how to insert) and long enough to grab with tweezers. She should have magnification so she should be able to treat hairs that you might not have thought possible. You’ll have to ask.

EDIT: I see that you already had a test patch. Did you hold an electrode or have a patch on you? If so, it was galvanic or blend. If not, it was thermolysis. How long did each hair take? If it was more than a few seconds with no electrode, it was regular thermolysis, if it was a split second per hair then it was flash.

FYI:

Thermolysis requires the client to hold the indifferent electrode if the electrologist is not using a foot switch. For the automatic timing option, having the client hold the indifferent electrode communicates with the epilator so it “knows” that there is a human being on the other end, thus completing the electrical circuit when the electrologist inserts the probe into the hair follicle.

This case could be like yours. The cheek over his beard was subjected to several sessions of laser (the client does not know what type of laser).
Approximately six weeks before taking this picture, the black square area was subjected to a test patch with Electrolysis (thermolysis = Picoflash). The test lasted 15 minutes.

Appearance of the area with 30 minutes of Electrolysis. 5 days after the first pictures.

It is not necessary that the hairs are so long, but you will see faster results if you start with many hairs present.

Good luck !!

Good point, Dee. I didn’t even think about that one.

Thanks everyone!

I didn’t hold any electrode or any patch on me. It was quick though. She did a lot of hairs in 15 minutes. She had a small ‘lipstick’ sized device in her hand, and an electrode coming out of that. She had a lot of setting options on her machine! She had something like NOSE, EAR options, and she input the TIME before starting the patch.

I will post-pone my appointment, since my hairs are definitely not long enough for tweezing.

Really appreciate all the replies! thanks again…

She was doing some kind of flash thermolysis with automatic timing on a computerized epilator, which is quick and thus, you get more hairs removed per hour. Sounding good so far if she is skilled.

Ask for the name of the machine and what TYPE of electrolysis she uses (it would be one of those mentioned above). Sounds like flash, which is good and fast. If hairs are coming out without resistance, then you’re good.

The hairs need to be just long enough to grab with tweezers.

Some hairs will be killed on the first try, some will need a couple zaps.

Hi all,
I don’t think she is interesting in talking about the procedure, or even the TYPE of electrolysis she uses! Anyways, will get the name of the machine.

She sold me “Dr. Eckstein Azulen Paste” for $45, but when I checked the price online - it was just $17/-

I feel bad now. Is it a really a good post-care product? Anyone? Should I change the electrolyst?!

Cheers!

I still have some hyper pigmented spots on the treated area. It didn’t go in last 3 weeks - even after applying Azulen Paste, Tea tree oil (Thursday plantation), witch hazel, Aloe Vera (Jason - 98% Moisturizing Gel). Am I expecting results too soon? Will they go away? How much time does it normally take?

light brown spots, at all those places where needle was pricked.

You should apply tea tree oil only at night and witch hazel several times a day during the day. It will take some time, but will go away. It’s not immediate. You definitely do not need any $17 or $45 cream. (Also, price difference can be due to size of tube)

Pretty much ANYTIME I go to any beauty place, they try to sell me products. I just say that I want to look around and don’t want to commit myself to buying anything, because they do tend to mark things up quite heavily. You have to remember that selling things online also works out a lot cheaper than buying them and selling them in a store.

Name of Machine: Sequentium electrolysis machine
