Length Between Treatments- Underarms

Hi everyone,

I’ve been researching laser for a while and would just like to say thanks for all the information supplied here and on the Cosmetic Enhancement forum. It’s a really useful resource for people like me

So, I went for a test patch on my underarms yesterday and all was fine. I felt pain (which I understand is a good thing!) and have booked in for my first appointment next week. I am type II skin type with very dark, course hair and they used an Alexandrite laser on 18mm at 16, 18 and 20 Joules.

My question is really about time between treatments as the clinic told me I must keep my appointments at 6 weekly intervals otherwise I wouldn’t get a good result. Now, obviously after having read these forums extensively I understand that it should be more like 8-12 weeks for body hair and really is dependent on when the hair starts to grow back. So i challenged them! They then came out with “oh but even if you can’t see the hair it might be below the surface”.

What is the correct answer here? After my first appointment next week I realise that it will take up to 3 weeks for shedding to occur and then the next cycle of hair will start to grow in. Will my results be less effective if I wait until I SEE hair growing for my next appointment after that? Or would it be pointless to go in at 6 weeks if there’s nothing there?

Thanks for your help!

I wouldn’t argue with them. Just schedule your appts when you have enough hair again to actually treat. There is no benefit to treating earlier since some hair is not there yet. By treating later, you make sure that all potentially treatable hair is there. 8-12 weeks is correct.

Great, thanks for your help!
