A little sparky Proteus thermolysis only machine for those who believe they can handle thermolysis, and want a CHEAP machine.
Ebay Item # 170160346548
This one should go really cheap and one would spend no more than $75 to have Texas Electrolysis fix anything on it that needed mending.
The ad says that only the cord needs replacing, which any electronics repair shop near you would do for about $25
Not that I am saying anyone should buy this (although I am sure it still works, and I know for a fact that Texas Electrolysis still fixes them even if it doesn’t), but anyone who wants to get in on the joke of what we mean when we electrologists joke “If your practitioner is still using a KREE, perhaps she needs to upgrade her equipment!”
In short, this is a real museum piece! Yes, that is a wood case with vacuum tubes!
Used Apilus Jr. digital epilator from mid 90’s with original manual is now available for $950. You pick it up, no mailing.
Please note that the manual should not be viewed as a teaching tool. It is expected that you already know what you are doing. There is a learning curve but first make sure that you have a steady hand, dexterity, and good hand-eye coordination.
Send me an email.

Silhouet-Tone VMC on eBay, listed so it didn’t come up with the usual search. For a mere $1,200. Oh well, with 50 minutes left on the clock there’s always the outside chance that someone might stumble over this…and…

Hello, Anyone?
Is ebay the best place to find an affordable and trustworthy unit or do supply companies sell used and/or refurbished units? I just need one for personal use but would prefer blend - not interested in galvanic only. Texas supply is the only place I’ve found so far. Help?
Thanks Much!
Jessica
I think Dr. Myron H. could help you out at Texas Electrolysis Supply. He could answer all your questions and make some suggestions. Not sure if they can sell a unit to you if you are not a licensed electrologist? Have you had a private conversation with him yet? I will check the AEA website as well. Prestige Electrolysis has a used classified section. I’m not so sure I would want to deal with e-bay at first. See what you can do otherwise.
I would strongly encourage you NOT to DIY on your facial hair.
Dee
There is an Apilus Junior for sale on the AEA site for $800, but that was listed in May 2007. I’m thinking a nice used Ultra Clareblend would work for you as well. There’s got to be a lot of those for sale if people are upgrading. You could call Clareblend and see if they have any used ones??
eBay is always cheaper. You have to be patient. They come up. You have to search it everyday, almost compulsively. Practitioners selling their old machines seem to remember back when they shelled out a couple thousand, and know the machine works just as good as new. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But someone who’s liquidating a defunct beauty spa, selling for a sister, or came across it somehow in a local sale, will almost always sell the same unit for about half as much.
With all due respect, and a love for some of these refurbishing companies, they will also ask prices that are pretty easy to beat on eBay, and that’s where they get some of their refurb units from in the first place, so they’re just cleaning them up, checking them out, and unloading them.
Don’t skimp and buy the cheapest old unit. look to spend $500 to $700, and persistence will get you a pretty good machine, and I mean Apilus or Silhouet-Tone, not some basic function Uni-blend or old Instantron. Don’t worry about being a licensed electrologist, anyone can buy a machine to use on themselves. Some states don’t even require a license to do it in the first place.

Here are some Silhouet-tone machines at Prestige:

The VMC is more than you need and I’m sure more than you want to pay!
This is a new epilator, but sounds perfect for your needs. I suspect though, that they may not sell to you without a license. Could be wrong, but just want to pose this to you.

This item sounds too pricey for a 14 year old machine.
Clareblend:
Dee,
Thanks so much for the advice. I do have a wonderful electrologist but I am looking for a way to save some $$ in between those expenseive sessions. I am in Indiana and so I suspect I would need a license to by from a wholesaler or retailer. I just thought I could find some middle ground on price and performance between the OneTouch and a New ClareBlend or Hinkel that might not require an arm and a leg (or a license)
Kind Regards,
Jessica
JessicaM;
If you are just looking for something to use between visits, than this little project may be of use to you.

It offers the simplicity of galvanic with the use of professional probes. Another project that I am working on, is the use of video camera’s and monitors for visual aids. I have ordered a couple of headrest type monitors for cars and will hook them up to my camera’s when they arrive. Then I will give a better report on how things are going on that project as well.
My belief is that the camera aimed at a mirror and then to the face, will correct the reversal problem. By using two, one for each eye, it should also all depth perception which is lost when only one eye is used.
Apilus Electropil ‘Junior’ on ebay. Looks solid, good safe bet. $400 to open, which is a good opening reserve. It’ll probably go for around $600, maybe $700 if two knowledgeable DIY’ers cross paths. This machine I would classify as very good for DIY, alright for commercial user that wants to come up from an older Hinkel, but a little less applicable for the pro that wants modern power and function. All you DIY’s should know this machine will make your life a lot easier than the SS-99 also listed, and is just as good, if not better than the Fischer listed for three times as much. Presets are lifesavers when starting out.

A serious DIY’er bonanza. Now three good machines listed on ebay, and in different pocket book catagories.
The Apilus Junior listed above, and…
A rare listing of a Hinkel UC3+. You hardly ever see these on ebay. A good, solid machine that would take a little more knowledge to operate than the the S-T or The Apilus:
Hinkel UC3+ with minor needed repair
And, the Silhouet-Tone Sequentium VMC has reappeared! Starting at $1,000, Buy It Now at $2,000. Probably worth the Buy It Now if you want one of these machines, just have the capital to spend, or are serious DIY/Pro and know you’re gonna stick it out for a few years. But I think brand new, out of the box with warranty and no risks, they are only $800 more at $2,800. If you’re considering this then you already know that. Ebay listings pretty much don’t get any better than this in terms of better machines.

The Silhouet-Tone Sequentium VMC retails for up to $3,500.00 with the average place reporting a price of $3,395.00 in the United States. Students purchasing from schools may get a better deal. In any event, I would think that getting one for $2500 or less is a steal new or used. They have not been out all that long. They can’t have much use under their belt yet.
For those looking for something a little less pricey, there is Ebay Item #330199955196, The Hinkel UC-2 with everything directly factory refurbished.
Apilus SX-500 available in Ebay Auction # 330200287586
I have an Apilus Jr. for sale for $800 however there are some stipulations:
-
buyer picks it up from my office; I won’t mail it
-
buyer has a quick tutorial on its use
