Lasering Front of Neck

I get lots of razor burn on the front of my neck and am considering lasering this area to completely remove the hair in this location, stopping a half-inch or inch below my jaw line.

I am a Caucasian male with black thick hair in this area.

Is it okay to use laser for this area and have excellent results? Approximately how many treatments on average would one need to accomplish these results?

I most certainly don’t want to deal with hair patches and other horror stories that some people post on here.

Curious to hear your perspectives.

Good questions … posited to the wrong audience.

Suggestions: Consult with both (actual) laser operators and (in the flesh) electrolysis operators and ask these folks your questions. Skills, settings, machines used, etc.? There are simply too many variables for any of us to give you an answer specific enough to make a decision. I can tell you ONLY what I can do, I cannot tell you what anyone else can do.

I suppose that you have kicked off the predictable responses from the laser-tolls and the electrology-trolls (of which I am one). You know: which laser is best, which electrolysis unit (method), “it worked great on me,” it did “horrible things” to so-and-so, blah blah blah. It’s somewhat worthless information because the ONLY thing that matters is the person who is doing the work on you … not anybody else’s experiences or opinions.

Ask the person who will be doing the work!

The practitioner that is MOST SPECIFIC as to the treatment outcome (and cost and time), would be my first choice. If you decide on laser, DO NOT sign one of those “if it doesn’t work on me, that’s just too bad” contracts, WTF(?). If you consult with an electrologist don’t buy the “this will take about a year” BS. What you want is HOURS of treatment not “elapsed time!”

Let all parties know that you expect specific results within the timeframe they specify. Never pay thousands of dollars “up front” to any practitioner: you are just asking to be cheated!

(BTW I was never very good at “hanging 10,” even on my “9’6” Yater Spoon!” I managed a few times, but generally went “over the falls!” But it was fun anyway! “Wipe-outs” can be entertaining! And, I did a lot of them.)

I personally wouldnt do laser on the neck again. I found the sessions I had on the neck didnt do alot to remove hair and the neck tends to be a high blood flow area and that affects how hair grows. I would also be in the same court as Michael, in that electrolysis is more predictable controllable and more likely to give you the results you want( THat is I fall into the electrolysis group ) .

Seana - did you go to a reputable place for your laser treatment? I would imagine the chance for success is lower if going to a less experienced place.

Curious to know more about your experience including which laser you used, the quality of the practitioner, how many sessions you had, etc/

Wow a lot of old threads seem to have been brought up this morning.

Reputable? err not so much.It was done by medical aesthetic students at a school. The machine was an alexandrite laser but 2 or more years later I have no idea of the model , spot size, .etc. I had some hyperpigmentation which seems to have faded.I started at 24 joules and moved up from there to 35 joules, but after the first 2-3 sessions I saw no improvement whatsoever. I eventually opted for electrolysis. The neck was one area I noticed the most patchiness, also eventually the most regrowth. It all came back.
