Laser Tria - Stopped working

Hello everybody,

my Tria laser has stopped working with all 3 lights flashing quickly, either just powering it up, or right after connecting the charger. Instruction manual says nothing about and only refers to call Customer Service.

Has anyone experienced this before? I’m a little bit concerned, as Tria has been working pretty well for me for the last year and a half and suddenly seems to be “dead”. It didn’t get a single hit and batteries were still ok, they felt a little bit old, but not very representative.

I’ve tried to search before posting, as well as googling it, but cannot find any post covering this topic.

Any idea will be kindly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
Jordi

What do you mean the batteries felt a little bit old, but not very representative?

I know it said in my manual, that if I attempted to open the device it would void the warranty. So I would just call customer service and see what they say.

I really hope your battery hasn’t went bad after just 1 1/2 years! I returned mine before the 3 month money back guarantee was over. Because I was afraid just that!

Hi Tommy,

I wanted to say that batteries had lost the initial capacity, lasting maybe 25-30 minutes instead of the initial 45 minutes (for instance).

I really don’t know how many battery cycles have gone through, but I guess not more than 200.

I’m gonna call customer service. I’ll let you know what they say. Anyway, it doesn’t seem a battery related problem at first, 'cause the problem happens just after you plug the charger in or switch on in any power intensity.

Thank you,
Jordi

The problem with the Tria battery system is that the battery can only be charged so many times before going bad. They expect you to throw away the entire unit and buy a new one, when it only needs a new battery, or for someone with serious electrical knowledge to rewire it to just plug into the wall and work like any other power tool. Of course, that would void the warranty… Oh, yeah, it would be garbage otherwise anyhow.

I hope Customer service helps you more than just telling you to buy another one.

Hi misters,

thanks for the feedback. Well, I guess there are 4 possibilities:

  1. Send to customer service, repair, and continue as before.
  2. Send to customer service, don’t repair (++money), disassemble and try to repair (imposible task, but yeah, garbage anyway…)
  3. If (2), maybe forget about Tria and search for other at-home methods (?)
  4. If (2), buy Tria 2, disassemble and wire it to an external power supply (maybe this would be easy).

Anyhow, I promise I’ll post whatever solution I get. It’s been difficult to find a web talking about wiring Tria and things like that, so, if by any chance I end finally doing it, for sure I’ll post some pics.

My original Tria failed after a few weeks (would not consistently sense skin on all 3 safety contact sensors, preventing it from triggering).

I got off the phone with their customer service and had a new Tria in my hands after 2 days. They will overnight you a replacement unit, then you send the bad one back in the box, with prepaid shipping. No questions asked. (At least this is how it was for me. They might be resorting to ground UPS now or something.)

You should absolutely call customer service right now.

The chances of the battery losing its charge is unlikely. It’s a Panasonic HHR300SCP NiMH rechargeable pack which is good for at least 250 full discharges. I’ve fully charged/discharged mine over 162 times without much noticeable change. However your battery pack may have been flawed, which would warrant a replacement anyway.
